Who would win at middleweight?

Sugar Ray Robinson
<table class="infobox" style="font-size: 95%; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><th>Total fights</th> <td>202</td> </tr> <tr> <th>Wins</th> <td>175</td> </tr> <tr> <th>Wins by KO</th> <td>108</td> </tr> <tr> <th>Losses</th> <td>19</td> </tr> <tr> <th>Draws</th> <td>6</td> </tr> <tr> <th>No contests</th> <td>2</td></tr></tbody></table>

Marvelous Marvin Hagler
<table class="infobox" style="font-size: 95%; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><th>Total fights</th> <td>67</td> </tr> <tr> <th>Wins</th> <td>62</td> </tr> <tr> <th>Wins by KO</th> <td>52</td> </tr> <tr> <th>Losses</th> <td>3</td> </tr> <tr> <th>Draws</th> <td>2</td> </tr> <tr> <th>No contests</th> <td>0</td></tr></tbody></table>

Even though SRR is one of my favorite fighters of all time, I would favor Hagler. I think because he's the naturally bigger man with that wicked right hand he would win by UD

I see your point, in that Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a natural middleweight, when Sugar Ray Robinson was a welterweight. Still, Robinson was great at middleweight as well. In fact, I would dare call Robinson the greatest middleweight of all time.

No body could box better than Robinson. In addtion, he had power, speed, chin, stamina and heart. He was the total package. I admire Hagler, but he would be in over his head in this one. He was a great counter puncher, but Robinson would beat him to the punch with speed and skill. In my opinion, Haglers only chance would be to stop Robinson inside the distance, and I can't envision this ever happening. Robinson wasn't stopped in over 200 professional fights, eventhough he kept fighting way into his 40s.

I can't see Robinson stopping Hagler either, so this would go the distance.

I do not see how Hager beats Ray. Robinson had everything, speed, strength, power, chin, stamina, and could box better than Marvin and even brawl beter. How does Hagler win. He can't oubox Ray, he will not outwork him or KO him and I see Ray landing 2-3 for every shot Marvin lands. Hagler is a tough son of a bitch, but his style is beatable when faced with fast slick tough fighters. Ray is the best of the best as regards this

Leonard beat Marvin, albeit Hagler was a wee bit over the hill, but a peak Robinson was a cut above Leonard at any time in all areas. Hagler's peak may have been Minter, but Ray was streets ahead of Minter and simply would be throwing too much leather at Marvin from all angles, all night

I'd have to favour the sugar man by decision. Hagler would give it his all but he would fall short and get outlanded.

I always agree with this guy =) . Hagler was a monster, but Robinson was a monster slayer. Sugar is to much, and to sweet even for Hagler. Robinson wins this 3 out of 3 times. I see the fight getting stopped in rounds 11 - 15.

Robinson TKO or UD

I cant see SRR or anyone for that matter stopping Hagler. Im not saying he was unknockoutable (??) but i just cant see Hagler being stopped.

I think it would be one hell of a fight. Boxing, intense infighting, both taking shots. I dont know how well SRR handled southpaws. Im guessing he did ok.

Im not sure how Hagler could win. SRR was just too slick, fast, tough and durable. Plus he had power.

Well, seeing as how Robinson peaked at Welterweight and Hagler peaked at Middle, this match favors Hagler more than one would think. Also, contrary to popular belief, Hagler was a slick counter-puncher with good handspeed, good technique, and one of the best chins ever given to a fighter. If Robinson couldn't get LaMotta off his feet, I doubt he'd stop Hagler, or drop him for that matter.

However, because of Hagler's southpaw style, I can see Ray's hook and right cross finding a home, which would be none too pleasant for Marvin and could cause him to give Ray more respect than he should.

Taking the best Middlweight Robinson, which would have been either the one that stopped LaMotta in the St. Valentine's Day massacre or the one who stopped Graziano in 3...IMO, and putting him in the ring with the best Hagler, which would probably be the one who warred with Hearns, even though he was physically probably past his best at that point....it's hard to imagine him being more focussed at any other point in his career.

That Hagler would have been closer to Robinson than pair of his own underwear; but Ray had great legs, unlike the Tommy Hearns who fought Marvin on that night in 1985, and was an accomplished infighter, so it's unlikely Marvin would have beat up on Robinson as he had Hearns. Robinson had a great chin, and loved combat and would gladly trade with Hagler, me thinks....when it was at his advantage to do so. Robinson was an incrediblyl heady fighter as well as talented, and bullseye accurate with his punches.

I can see this being a back and forth battle with both men having their moments and their rounds; but in the end, I give the edge to Robinson and think he would win enough of the rounds to come away with an ultra close decision.

Anyone who saw this fight would remember it for a very long time.

Robinson would outbox Hagler, but Hagler would put up a good fight, but I say Robinson by UD.

I agree with you inthat I dont see Hagler getting hurt, by anyone even Robinson. Hagler was tough,...maybe not as tough as Lamotta, but tough as hell non the less. I just see Robinson landing some nasty large cobinnations (as he did), and doing this alot in the latter rounds forcing the ref to stop the fight. I didn't mean he would lay Halger out for 10.
