Yup, I had my first sparring session on tuesday. It was fun, better than hitting the bags, although i did get jabbed in the face a couple of times, but all still good :D My reach is small, so I had trouble reaching him aswell...Hopefully I get to spar today aswell :boxing:

Well, I am not sure what you are talking about? Anyway, you should have done hundreds of ring drills concentrating mostly on defense. Back when I was training young guys, I wouldn't let them spar until they could prove they could defend themselves. There is no point in being easy to hit because in boxing you don't win fights by getting hit.

Pads, your trainer will walk around with the mitts. It's kind of a simulation sparring.

Ring drills are orchestrated routines which simulate common boxing sequences. For example, what do you do when Sam Peter throws a righthanded haymaker at you? Roll and counter is one way to deal with it. It is your boxing trainer's responsibility to teach you how to roll and counter, it is your responsibility to learn. The learning process in this instance is best facilitated by ring drills. Trying to learn these things by sparring is much too difficult.
