HAVE YOU EVER SEEN HOW BUSTED GATTI GETS WHEN HE FIGHTS EVEN IN WINS? IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT TO LOOK LIKE AND TAKE YOUR CHANCES THAT YOU'LL GET CAUGHT WITH A BIG SHOT. "LIGHTS OUT"
I WOULD WANT TO LEARN DEFENSE. COUNTERING, MOVING, AND BLOCKING WOULD SERVE YOU WELL. DOESN'T MATTER THE SIZE OF THE SPACE. CHRIS BYRD USED A VERY SMALL SPACE CAN'T REMEMBER IF HE SAID 8 OR 9 FEET AND LOOK WHAT KIND OF DEFENSE HE HAS. I WOULDN'T RECOMEND THE GATTI APPROACH WHILE LEARNING HOW TO BOX. THAT TO ME SEEMS LIKE A BAD RUT TO GET INTO

i know if someone stood there and let me get a lot of hits off, i would not stop hitting them, and i'd be likely to throw a few haymakers. if someones moving around, i'd be a little more cautios then to throw power punches the whole time. don't wait for people to stop punching, learn to counter and defend yourself. heck, you don't even hae to run into a power puncher, a fast puncher would be worse because he'd be all over you and the ref might stop the fight, while you aren't even hurt. but i know your still learning, your coach will let you know what to do. keep at it.

block, parry, block with your shoulders, duck, and try and set up a counter punch. im sure you'll learn this all in good time.

dont let em hit you , try and take as little punches as possible , i some times like to throw punches when im taking them if ya get what i mean, if ya got a longer reach you usually can get to them better than they can get you. if you know your not going to land a punch dont throw it , its just a waste of energy

Never step back in a straight line because then you are a very easy target an he won't have 2 go looking for you. So always go side to side. And if u duck from a punch don't come straight up the middle with your head move to the side with an answer to his punches.

Remember don't be a sitting target and everything comes off the jab remember so wen he is jabbing you into a corner there are three ways to neutralaise your opponents jab.
1) throw your own jab
2)body punches
3) throw a straight right as he throws his jab.
Peace out.

If your just gana sit ther try to set something up wait for a good time when u hav just blocked or parred a punch and throw a right or left uppercut thats what i always do and it works most of the time, but neva wait to long dont just take punches for nufin be smart about it if u feel its not gana happen move or turn him.

Never just let a guy throw shots at you, you never know when one might push through.

One secret to boxing is learning to find a mans rythme and then working in between his rythme. Meaning, maybe you let him get a couple off on you but then you have to fire back, in between his rythme. Do that and they will be less likely to come in swinging away at you. When you do catch a cat inbetween his rythme it ****s them up. Not that it neccesarily hurts them but it messes with them. They think that they are going to be hitting you and then you sneak in that shot, they dont expect it.

You can do the thing of letting the guys throw at you with out returning for a while. But then you will find cats that you cant just let throw at you like that. There are alot of sharp fighters out there and they know how to find those open spots. Learn to roll with the shots and then to come back firing inbetween their rythme. It will help you alot if you try to practice it earlier rather than later.

It sounds like you are relatively new at boxing and are just getting into it. Being unexperienced, its natural that you don't really know how to manuever just yet in the proper fashion. That only comes with time, experience, and being in the ring a lot. Remember when someone is throwing a punch that means that they are also vulnerable for a split second, a split second in which you could take advantage of and get your own shot in there. You will probably continue doing the same thing your doing now for a while, as it just doesn't happen overnight, learning how to duck dodge block and slip punches that is. But as I said, the more time your in the ring and the more punches that are thrown at you the better you will get at it. Practice moving in a circle and not crossing your feet, while at the same time doing a little head movement and ducking just a bit. At first, I'm not going to lie to you, its not gonna be pretty. Your probably gonna go in there and your gonna take a lot of punches and you probly wont' be able to get that many in, or at least it will feel that way. But once you begin to gain confidence in the ring and start to gain a little skill, you will see the difference. THe main important thing to do when you are first starting is get in shape to be able to take punches and be in the ring without any injury. Once your health enough to do that and have the stamina, you will start to see how much you will pick up. Good luck!

It's cool to kind of adapt to a good fighters style BUT Arturo Gatti's is one style I wouldn't recommend. I don't know you personally, but Gatti (the stand and trade Gatti) takes alot of punishment and is your classic take some to give some fighter. Like Buddy McGirt said, Would you rather go play golf after sparring or sit around and nurse your wounds.
It's never a good idea to let your opponent finish up his combo on you, but if your timing them for that good counter than best of luck.

This message was kind of a ramble but keep up the work.
