View Full Version : Just Got My Physical
fraidycat 09-21-2006, 01:22 PM Impressed the **** out of my doctor. He was flabbergasted. I've lost 30 lbs. since the last time he saw me (2 years ago.) Resting heart rate is 49! BP 109/60, my neck and back check out; I was in a bad car wreck 15 years ago, broke both my kneecaps, severe whiplash, back injuries, some residual arthritis and some scar tissue in between the vertebra in my neck and a couple places in my back, but nothing that should keep me from boxing. My flexibility, posture, reflexes -- overall he says I'm in excellent shape. Probably the best overall physical condition of my life.
He signed me off to box in the upcoming local exhibition night, & said, "Go out there and make me proud."
Boxing FTW.

The Raging Bull 09-21-2006, 01:49 PM That is great news. People don't realise how some hard boxing training can really change their whole physique. Glad for you mate :)

My doc has seen me:
- break both knees and pull a rib out of my spine (car accident)
- get KO'd by an 8' length of 4X4" wood that got kicked out of a saw and shot across the room
- get bitten by a black widow spider
- get stung by enough wasps to send me to the emergency room
- break my foot in two places
- break my toe
- break my finger
- screw up my neck and back half a dozen times (he's an osteopath so he does spinal manipulations like a chiropractor)
. . . me boxing is the least of his worries. It's safer than my day job. :)
Ringo 09-26-2006, 10:20 AM Fraidy, man...what in the hell do you do?!
fraidycat 09-26-2006, 11:08 AM I'm the Facilities Lead for a 250,000-square foot manufacturing plant employing 600 people. My team handles all the electrical, plumbing, and structural issues on the plant itself. Everything from changing light bulbs, to moving people from cube to cube, to building new offices, to taking out hornet nests and plumbing liquid nitrogen. All the fun ****.
I've been knocked off ladders, shocked by 480V 3-phase, fallen out of a tree, crashed an 8-ton forklift through the bottom of a semi trailer (the floor gave way), hit my head and cut myself more times than I can count -- including having my hair ripped out by crows and needing stitches, I **** you not (killed those ****ers with my Marlin .22 and a homemade silencer the following weekend; did a full-on Charles Whitman off the roof) -- and I once got set on fire in a welding accident. THAT shook some people up. I wouldn't trade it for anything, though. My boss is a schmuck but my job rules.
If my mama had known there was a job for me where I could climb on anything in sight, take anything apart I wanted to, and occasionally break ****, she never would've worried about me as a kid.
Edit: I often wear a T-shirt that says "I DO ALL MY OWN STUNTS."
Kid Achilles 09-26-2006, 06:17 PM LOL that is awesome Fraidy. Might as well live while you're alive, right?
Those are impressive numbers BTW. Very impressive. I am working on getting into shape myself.

Damn, and I thought 347V was bad :P
fraidycat 09-26-2006, 06:50 PM man, u're one tough mofo, u'll make a good boxer - u can handle pain and probably have a good chin
Eh. I'm not that tough. It all hurts. I just go on.
fraidycat 09-26-2006, 06:58 PM Damn, and I thought 347V was bad :P
I'd think 347 would sting a bit. Damn. 480, you don't feel anything. At least, I didn't. A bright light and a really loud noise in my head. They were getting ready to whack me with the AED (defib) when I came to. Spent the night in the hospital. Burned my fingers 2nd degree and burned all the hair off my right arm. My arm still prickles sometimes, like when the blood rushes back to your hand after it falls asleep, and I've had tendon problems in that shoulder ever since. The skin where my fingers were burned still has a flaking problem if I don't exfoliate it and use lotion every night. Really weird aftereffects.
I was opening an air conditioning unit, a roof-mounted chiller. How'd you get hit with 300+?
