View Full Version : Hbo Would Be Stupid To Not.....
MetalVomit 10-08-2004, 05:03 PM sell their fights on DVD. they could sell the fights for like $9.99, PPVs for about $15.99 with all the prefight arguements and build up, interviews and what not. It would be profit for them, joy for us boxing fanatics. Same goes for showtime. I want to have Toney/Jirov on dvd to show my friends.

yeah, i saw that corrales frietas advertisement, but wasnt it like 29.95 or something, that is ridiculous. it would HAVE to be less than 20 dollars for me to buy it, and i am a ridiculously fanatic boxing fan.

MetalVomit 10-08-2004, 05:18 PM Its $19.95 for the Corrales/Frietas DVD
oh, thats not too bad then. hbo has had so many great fights, they need to do this, they could even release one of their fighters entire careers when they retire.
MetalVomit 10-08-2004, 05:18 PM Hey Mandy lover, did they steal your points?
no i banked them. thanks for the heads up too.
neils7147933 10-08-2004, 05:19 PM This would be all right for fight fans a few years down the road trying to get their hands on a fight - but for a show that was free on its network, why would someone pay 20 bucks for it when they could just record it - and they already know the outcome by the time it's on DVD.
Oh wait, I just checked this link. It comes with a free keychain. I'm in.
Keychains rule.

Sir_Jose 10-08-2004, 05:23 PM I've only seen showtime do it with the corrales-freitas fight...
Thats the only big fight they have had since they started selling DVD's

you can get that fight on DVD. If the bootleggers were making a ton of money, you best believe HBO and Showtime would be putting out their own stuff. There must not be sufficient interest for them to worry about releasing these fights.
It's silly. When WWE started releasing double DVDs with classic wrestling matches on 2 and 3 DVD sets, they sold like crazy, Ric Flair's disc in particular.
Maybe they would have better success putting out a Roy Jones disc with his best 10 fights, a Gatti, DLH, Mosley, Lewis, whoever they own the rights to the fights.
That could be another issue - divying up the profits with the promoters, etc. I wonder who "owns" these fights.

bigdlb12 10-08-2004, 05:35 PM I hope that HBO does it soon.,there are alot of fights I would love to have on DVD

Dont buy that
If all goes right I will upload that fight in a few days
mic573 10-08-2004, 07:16 PM I would think that the promoters would want a piece of the profit since they are the ones who actually put on the show. That could be a big road block.

This is hilarious, man.

Bootleggers do make a ****load of a money. Like, an enormous ****load. I think the problem right now is exactly what you mentioned at the end of your post. It's easy for the WWE to put their "fights" out on DVD, after all they own all the rights to the entire enterprise. HBO only own the rights to the figthers they promote.
Rick Reeno 10-09-2004, 01:41 AM sell their fights on DVD. they could sell the fights for like $9.99, PPVs for about $15.99 with all the prefight arguements and build up, interviews and what not. It WONT happpen because promoters like Don King and Bob Arum own the rights to distribute their fighter's bouts.
There is not enough interest in people paying for boxing DVDs. Bigger sports like Baseball, Hockey and Football dont distribute DVDs of regular season games or playoffs and they have followings that blow the following of Boxing away.
People pay big bucks to have premium channels like HBO and Showtime in order to watch these fights, some like me, only pay for them to watch Boxing fights. Boxing is a very tiny part of what HBO and Showtime do, which is why they always have problems putting certain fights together due to there not being enough money to go around. They arent going to risk losing subscribers or pay per view buyers who will wait until the DVD comes out. Once HBO started putting out Sopranos on DVD, I know plenty of people that cancelled HBO and just buy the season once it comes out because it saves money.
The only pro sports DVD I have seen do semi decent numbers is the collectors edition DVD of the Super Bowl that comes out every year, but we are talking about the biggest sporting event of the year.
Dr.Depravity 10-09-2004, 01:52 AM As much as I would like to buy dvd fights, Rick's right. Just have to bite the bullet and tape em. Or wait untill the re-broadcast and tape them. Ive taped a few fights. most are lost. I had the Buster Douglas fight on vhs for a long time. Its long gone now. :(
