View Full Version : Winning Gloves ejenki 09-18-2006, 02:07 PM Has anybody ever used a pair of these gloves and if so where did you find them? boxingcp 09-18-2006, 07:11 PM www.winning-usa.com Buy Ringside International style (I use the Ringside International 14 ounce). They are almost the same in style and fit, MUCH CHEAPER! I have a Winning headgear with the bar on it (FG5000). Cost me $329.95 but, no cuts, bloody noses and bruises. All the top pros in CA wear it for that extra protection. But let me tell you, you will still feel every solid hit. On maxbox Edwin Valero almost kayo'd Urbano Antillion who was wearing the bar Winning headgear. So it is best to protect against cuts. I bruise and cut, and I spar at least 3 days per week, and at 35, I can't afford any gym injuries now. All the best to you! deh707 09-18-2006, 08:28 PM i've seen videos of margarito sparring with that on. that's a little too expensive for me, do you think this is good? http://store.titleboxing.com/title-...r-headgear.html ($49.99) or http://www.kofightgear.com/facesaver.htm ($62.96) or http://store.everlastboxing.com/eve...-headgear1.html ($99.99) besides the price differences, can there really be any big differences? boxingcp 09-18-2006, 08:39 PM I have seen them, tried them, and sad to say.. the Winning is the only one that stayed put. Those other brands are made one size fits all. Which means, they are large and move around alot when hit, especially on smaller heads. I bought the medium size and it fit perfect. The bar on those other brands are set very low and stick out further then the forehead. So punches get thru and your head gets twisted violently when the bar is hit. Hey, why do all the top Pro's wear that Winning brand and not the others? The only closest alternative to the Winning is the Reyes for $140.00. but be warned... it is made with a steel bar, which makes it very heavy and hard to move your head. It is also a one size item. The Winning is made very light and NOTHING gets thru. It really is too bad so expensive, my credit card was screaming. I heard it was because of the exchange currency rate from Japan to the U.S. It isn't even real leather!!! Which tells me it is probably made for less than $50.00 in Japan. But it is a superior product, and when I was in CALI, it is the most used piece of equipment in the gym. It is very durable as I have been in gym wars with it, with big bangers... not a mark on my face. I hope this helps you. deh707 09-18-2006, 08:43 PM about the Winning headgears, why are they all made out of "Artificial Leather"? http://winning-usa.com/headgear.html since you're saying it's good, and i've seen pros use them in sparring, i might get it. i just wanna know, how does the material feel? boxingcp 09-18-2006, 08:45 PM Please see my edited reply...and the material feels soft, not rough and it hasn't torn at all on me, even with the hardest sparring. I even wear it when I train so I can be used to it. Very tough piece of equipment. But there is no way I am buying those gloves for over $200.00!! deh707 09-18-2006, 08:48 PM i see.. thanks. it's sad that there are no other "face-saver" headgears that have multiple sizes, huh? boxingcp 09-18-2006, 08:51 PM Ringside used to make them years ago and they were awesome!! But as always's, Ringside changes things and screws it up. (Try looking on Ebay, you never know, an older model WITH THE RINGSIDE LOGO on it may pop up.) ejenki 09-18-2006, 10:08 PM Damn their products are expensive but thanks for the info. eazy_mas 09-19-2006, 02:30 AM It Mayweather fav. gloves as he puts it " It like cushoin for the hand." a commment i heard during the Gatti fight. but its not for punchers Reyes is better for those things potatoes 09-19-2006, 11:51 PM Has anybody ever used a pair of these gloves and if so where did you find them? Russ Anber reported on TSN that Floyd Mayweather uses Winning gloves because he thinks they protect his hands better. You may have noticed that Mayweather's gloves appeared to be larger than Judah's. Judah uses Everlast, which have a different kind of padding, but still weigh the same amount as the Winning gloves. deh707 09-20-2006, 12:11 AM yup, from what i've heard: cleto reyes (mexico) gloves, it's padding is less focused on the knuckles, increasing chance of injury to both fighters. aka the puncher's gloves everlast (usa?) gloves, are all-around, or standard. winning (japan) gloves, it's padding is more focused on the knuckles and hand, reducing chance of injury to both boxers. aka the pillow gloves. i'm not sure about Grant gloves. boxingcp 09-20-2006, 12:22 AM Grant Pro gloves are great! Well padded. I use a pair of 10 ounces for all my bag and mitt work. As far as his sparring gloves go, they are not good at all. Too stiff, unable to make a closed fist and the padding is not always's placed correctly. They are hand made so that could be the factor, but so are his pro gloves, and every pair I have owned have been fantastic. Just stay away from the sparring gloves. I never see them used in any gym, and those who have tried them did not like them. Everlast sparring gloves are better, but Ringside International are the best by far. Ringsides safety gloves are way too padded and bulky. deh707 09-20-2006, 03:18 AM www.winning-usa.com Buy Ringside International style (I use the Ringside International 14 ounce). All the best to you! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lSag1bYcUs&mode=related&search= deh707 09-20-2006, 03:45 AM boxingcp, i read your post about the everlast training gloves at a different forum. it was dated may 21, 2006. you said they are like rocks and hurt your hands? and recently here you said "Everlast sparring gloves are better, but Ringside International are the best by far.". are you talking about the same $80 everlast training glove? i heard everlast changes their glove design/material from time to time, could it be that they are good now? one more question, in all of those sparring videos of pros in California, are they using the Winning SoftType glove, or the standard Winning glove? soft type: http://winning-usa.com/softtypeprogloves.html standard: http://winning-usa.com/progloves.html BmoreBrawler 09-20-2006, 08:59 AM if youre going to buy winning, go to www.mmamuscle.com Its like 3 times cheaper. deh707 09-20-2006, 12:31 PM if youre going to buy winning, go to www.mmamuscle.com Its like 3 times cheaper. i went there and i can't find anything made by Winning. are you talking about Windy? boxingcp 09-20-2006, 01:03 PM Windy are for Muay Thai boxers or Pacman. That's where it should stay. Everlast 14 oz. were like rocks, the 18oz. and 16 oz. were soft and usable. The other problem with Everlast sparring gloves, the thumb sticks out way far, and I have seen guys getting out of the ring poked in the eye by them. You are right, Everlast does make everything different. I purchased headgear from them (old school, and when I purchased another, it was padded different (less) and the cheek protectors were smaller! I saw one at another gym and it was so padded it was going to explode! Good move made by Everlast...moving to kansas and having China produce the equipment now. When I used to drive into the Bronx to buy it, it was always's produced the same way. Hey, save money and ruin a great Bronx NY tradition, nevermind lay off all those people. But you'll notice they still put Bronx NY on their equipment and made in China on the back... boxingcp 09-20-2006, 01:07 PM As far as the Winning gloves go, they are always's using the standard brand. I have seen Pacquio use the soft type only. deh707 09-20-2006, 01:52 PM thanks man BmoreBrawler 09-20-2006, 03:57 PM lol oh yeah woops. sry i have a fever. KingDosia 09-20-2006, 04:46 PM yup, from what i've heard: cleto reyes (mexico) gloves, it's padding is less focused on the knuckles, increasing chance of injury to both fighters. aka the puncher's gloves everlast (usa?) gloves, are all-around, or standard. winning (japan) gloves, it's padding is more focused on the knuckles and hand, reducing chance of injury to both boxers. aka the pillow gloves. i'm not sure about Grant gloves. The Reyes gloves are cutters to. I use them and have caused some pretty good gashes. They are not as padded in my opinion and the others. I like the Everlast gloves, good all around and wont break the bank. havn't used the Grant gloves yet. See them a lot, and look well constructed. Pork Chop 09-20-2006, 05:52 PM only time i've ever dropped someone was a body shot delivered with reyes 16 oz. i much prefer grants though. |
