Is there any benefit of being able to do 100 push ups? Ive been trying to get there lately and getting up to about 90 give or take 1 or 2.

How is it going to help me being able to do 100 upwards...

Well I once read in a magazine that pushups can cause stress on your shoulders or elbows (one of them, can't completely remember), and it isn't a good thing.

Well, you can post vids on youtube, and show off on boards. That's about it.

It helps the endurance part of your strength. I do 100 push-ups using the push-up handles so I can go even lower and get a wider range of motion. I've noticed at work I can lift heavy boxes for a longer period of time without feeling fatigue and when I am doing my shadowboxing I can hold my arms up longer when throwing punches with 3 pound dumbbells.

You can say you can do 100 pushups, which is probably a lot more than the slob you're talking to. Pushups are fun, I used to be able to do 120 in each set in high school.

It is fun to do them and I enjoy the pump you get afterwards and they have the added benefit of burning a few extra calories.

Can you do them on your fingers and knuckles?

I was doing sets of around 40-50, really killing them a few times a day going for the burn each time, and my right shoulder started giving me trouble when I'd wake up in the morning. I now do sets of 25 a few times a day, just throw out a set every now and again as a "breather" at work or in the middle of my noon run. My shoulder is much better. I think it's definitely possible to inflame a rotator cuff with too many pushups. Your mileage may vary.

I have heard about cases where you have had cases similiar to "runners knee" except on the shoulders meaning too much stress and tension on the shoulders and elbows and your shoulder ends up getting ****ed.

in my gym there used to be a guy who did 100 pushups, 100 chinups, 100 headstands, 100 crunches every time he worked out, he was the most fit looking dude i've ever seen. he was also a martial artist

As a Sergeant in the Army, I used to have my squad do 20 push-ups every 1/2 hour on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Every one of my soldiers and myself could do 100 push-ups in two minutes for our madatory Physical Fitness Tests every few months as a result of this.

100 pushups is good to test endurance, but it shouldnt be done frequently

I think it has to do alot about your weight , I could do alot more when I was younger and weighed less , im stronger now and weigh more but can do less pushups !

Small pushups on the knuckles, e.g. only drop about 6", are good to improve punching power. Full pushups are better for grapplers because they allow the grappler to hold a person and control their own body weight at any distance from the body. A person who hurts himself doing too many is probably rushing his training. One shouldn't increase reps more than 10% per week. Better to do different kinds of push-ups most of the week and a long set only once per week.

I think they add variety to the normal push-ups, and also teach you to become more explosive.

Be careful though with clap push ups. Best to do them on a mat or softer surfaces. Hard surfaces like concrete can shock the elbow joints.

I sure don't. I do 4 sets of 25 but never 100 in one go. When you weigh around 225lbs it can be harder to do a long chain of push ups than if you weigh 150lbs.

I could do 100 pushups, and I never felt shoulder strain from it.

You're a lucky guy. I've caused myself some real injuries pushing myself to 100 straight away.
