Well there's a lot of myths but how bad is coffee really for you? I have a job where I have to be up pretty early in the morning and I try not to have coffee before I work but without it, my mornings are hell. Is coffee really that bad and IF it is, is there anything different I can drink that will wake me up/give me energy that is NUTRITIOUS.

Thanks

I haven't touched coffee in years and I'm more awake in the mornings than some people I see drinking coffee. It seems coffee has a vicious cycle of taking you in so you need more and more. I know people who get headaches if they don't have a cup in the morning  never mind that they need it to get them up. As for myself, I drink about two or three glasses of water in the morning and later when I get to work I have a V8 and that works for me fine.

I know this may sound stupid but try doing a few light exersies such as a set or 2 of pressups and crunches. gets the blood flowing and seems to wake me up.

I would avoid coffee (and caffeinated beverages) altogether simply because of the caffeine. You don't need it. Just as you should avoid any supplements that contain caffeine and caffeine derivatives (or drugs/stimulants) that are similar to it (e.g., guarana). Even decaf coffee has minimal amounts of caffeine in it (along with other chemicals).

Cut it out of your diet and stick to water and fresh squeezed juices (or frozen-blender fruit) juices, or at least all-natural juices to avoid the high-sugar content of most "juices" that are only 10-25% juice anyway. Once you cut it out, you'll feel much, much better after a while.

The only successful method I know of to wake yourself up in the mornings without drinking coffee, get a cold shower. That probably sounds rediculous but it really works. I'm wide awake as soon as I feel ice cold water on the back of my neck, seems to shock your senses to life or something like that.

True enough. I always shower cold in the morning, BUT I always do so after a really good PT (workout) session as well. Get up at 0430 every morning (a habit from years in the USMC), rain or shine, for PT. Then, cold shower. Point being, don't know your exercise regimen, but I find a session, at least for an hour or so, in the morning, also helps to really wake me up as well. Might give that a try too.

Ok, you saying weed has hardly any negative effects is very troubling especially if your a boxer.

On The Brain:
-THC rapidly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream, which carries the chemical to organs throughout the body, including the brain.

-In the brain, THC connects to specific sites called cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells and influences the activity of those cells. Many cannabinoid receptors are found in the parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thought, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement. (seems like things important to boxing, No?)

-Short term memory loss, as well as problems learning anything.

On The Heart:
-One study has indicated that an abuser's risk of heart attack more than quadruples in the first hour after smoking marijuana.

On The Lungs:
- Even infrequent abuse can cause burning and stinging of the mouth and throat, often accompanied by a heavy cough.

-Marijuana abuse also has the potential to promote cancer of the lungs and other parts of the respiratory tract because it contains irritants and carcinogens.

-Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which increases the lungs' exposure to carcinogenic smoke. These facts suggest that, puff for puff, smoking marijuana may be more harmful to the lungs than smoking tobacco.

I've had enough friends who dont reach their potential because of POT. Dont fall into that trap.

Coffee good for u, generally no. Hes the irony, people get hooked on drinking coffee cause it makes um feel better, more alert etc,At Bristol University studies were performed. Does coffee actually increae ur energy and mental performance or just relieve the symptons of withdrawal?

They found out coffee drinkers dont feel better then people who never drink it. In other words drinking cofee relieves the symptoms of withdrawal from cofee. its addictive.

As well as being aditive ita ctaully worsens mental performance. Test have been done that were published in the AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PSYCHIARY looked at 1500 psychology students and seperated them into groups depending on how much they drank.

Coffee drinkers in all groups had higher levels of anixuety and depresstion than non coffee drinkers, high connsumers had greastest incidence of stress related problems as well as lower academic performance. A number of studies have show that the ability to remember a list of words is reduced by caffine.

One researcher said"it effects the rapid processing of ambigiguous or confussing stimuli.

Caffee blocks receptors in the brain called adenosine which stops the release of dopamine and adrenalin. This makes u less motivated decreases alertness and peak concentration.

The more coffee u drink the more insensitive u become to ur own natural stimulants dopamine and adrenaline.U then need more stimulants to feel normal, and keep puushing ur bosy to produce dop and adren, eventually causing exhustion and an inability to stop producing these chemicals.
Apathy, depression exhustion and an ability to cope can sset in.

If u want to be in tip top shape stay away from stimulants. Too much caffeine in some individuals can help trigger schizoprenia or mania.

Give coffee up for two weeks. U may get withdrwal symptoms tired ness headaches etc. Afetr 3 or 4 days u will begin to feel perky and ur health improves. :boxing:

Hope this was a typo man. "70?" That's nothing brother. Even in the US, life expectancy is, on average, over 75 years of age. It's typically between 75.7 and 76.5 years, with it having risen recently to 77.9 years. Hard to calculate precisely however, because even worldwide life expectancies vary based on the year a person was born; It's not based on the year you're presently living in. Anyway you cut it though, saying you live until you're "70" isn't saying too much. But I get the idea of where you're coming from.

My only point was to avoid the caffeine. Decaf coffee isn't that much better because, frankly, there are chemicals other than caffeine which are present in the coffee which can be just as harmful to some people. There is a roller-coaster effect to coffee and caffeine; highs and lows, crashes and rebounds which come from consuming the drug. You cut it out of your diet, you'll feel better, have improved energy, sleeping patterns (sounder sleep, deeper sleep), etc. Even been known to give some heart palpitations given the impact of caffeine on blood pressure and your heart rate.

I used to consume caffeine like crazy. Found that it was giving me blinding headaches and even raised my blood pressure. Had to cut it cold turkey. That wasn't as hard as most people think, or as it sounds. Now it's been years since I've had it. I admit, I miss the tastes of (sometimes) colas and coffee too, but don't miss the effects of what it did to my life. Feel way, way better with out it. Just one boxer's opinion on it, but I'll admit it might impact everyone differently.
