I think we definately need one of these threads in this training and nutrition forum. To inform people of quality boxing gear and to steer those away from subpar trainig equipment. Whose with me?

you're talking about the "high performance training glove", right? the $30 ones.

the good ones are the "pro-training" gloves by everlast.

when it comes to boxing equipment, you get what you pay for.

i suggest staying away from equipment at local sports stores (like Big 5, wal-mart). most of the time their stuff don't provide enough safety.

Pro Mex training gloves- Suck, though i hear theyre pretty accurate recreations of Reyes gloves. Dont care for them.

IMF tech training gloves- Awesome protection, though the wrist protection is wearing out a little. A little too bulky as well.

KOFightGear sparring gloves- 16oz gloves look like 12oz amateur competition gloves, high quality and cheap but they dont have good wrist support.

IMF tech 16 oz training gloves - best protection, but i dont recommend them for sparring, the striking surface is hard.

top contender 14 oz supersoft training gloves - cheap, soft, safe, but made of synthetic leather, and the person using the gloves, can't "feel" the punch when they hit something, because of the extra thick 3.5 inch open-cell foam.

everlast 12oz. "high performance" training glove - not good, purchased at big 5, no protection, stinks fast.

century 12oz. training gloves - (got it at big 5), no good, no wrist support, all the padding is on the top, unbalanced.

everlast 180 inch mexican style handwraps - good.

some people like em, some people hate em.

i have a pair, and it has good knuckle protection, but the wrist protection is horrible.

when using the glove wraps, it's hard to put on some gloves.

i would only use them for the speed bag, nothing beats the old school handwraps.

First off, this is a damn good idea for a thread that should be stickied.

I have been boxing for some time now and I have come to the simple conclusion that yes, you do get what you pay for. If you're looking for high quality gear, those $30 Everlast gloves you can get at Walmart aren't for you. Going to a martial arts store (if you have one in the area), a local gym, or the internet are the best ways to get quality gear.

When it comes to gloves and hand wraps, I use the brand Century. They offer high quality gear for not an arm and a leg in price. Another big brand in the business is Title Boxing. They offer great quality products at average prices. As for professional style gloves, Grant Boxing, which provides gloves for several professional fighters, such as Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr., Winky Wright and Antonio Tarver amongst others, offers arguably the best quality gloves in the world for a more expensive price (anywhere from $85 on up).

How are the Evergel Glove Wraps? also, can they be used under gloves for sparring and all that?, im real tempted to get some but havent heard too much about themIn addressing that quote, I'm assuming you're referring to the yellow and black Evergel glove wraps by Everlast, as advertised by Everlast's very own Jermain Taylor and Jeff Lacy. All in all, they are very suitable for hitting the speed bag, as they prevent your hand from getting minor cuts amongst your knuckles from the laces.

Honestly though, when it came to me hitting the heavy bag, I would wear them under my 12 or 10 oz. gloves, and when I would put together solid jabs and combinations, the gloves would push the Everlast Glove Wraps into my knuckles, causing annoying cuts and scrapes along them at first. After a while of using them though, this problem was overcome, and I have no problem with them; I think they are a great product. For the 24.99 that most retailers sell them for, it can be a time-saving alternative instead of having to use individual hand wraps under your gloves before you train.

That being said, I hope that answers some questions.

the only bad thing i;ve seen in the 30dollar everlast gloves r that there really easy to tear on the inside

Comes complete with drum, hanging brackets, swivel, vinyl speed bag, speed bag gloves, hand wraps and jump rope. Not too bad for $50.00. Although not bad for a beginner there are some serious problems with this set. First off the drum is a little thin,i would suggest weighting it with a round piece of wood on top to kill some vibration. Second replace both the speed bag and swivel. The swivel it comes with is plastic and it broke on me in about 3 months time and an all leather speed bag is much more accurate on the rebound.Third the hand wraps are pretty crappy i would definately recommend you get yourself some mexican hand wraps be it everlast, title whatever you choose. and lastly the jump rope it comes with is very small anyone over 5'8 would probably have trouble with it. So in conclusion if your looking for a home speed bag set up the price is nice but there are some real down falls to it, but after making some upgrades to it it's pretty good, i would just try to find the speed bag itself and not the whole set they try to get you to buy and get your own quality gloves, jump rope and hand wraps!

I've heard the swivel is a s-hook which utter ****. Theres better alternatives for the price with better swivels, Title has some.

I just got some ringside boots from ringside.com, on sale for 55.00 +tax. So far, so good.

I've never worn a pair of ringside gloves. I'm breaking my CR's in pretty smoothly though, even though they set me back 140 ;(

Ringside does last, they are well padded, and the feel amazingly comfortable compared to my other gloves. Ringside is top notch, no worries when dealing with them.

I am thinking of buying the Gel Title gloves.

I am getting them at a discount for $55. Anyone know anything about these, I heard they are a very solid glove for the price.

Well I have the Title Gel World Bag Gloves which I got because people always went on about how good it was (also got it on a discount, arrived yesterday). To me it seems durable, soft leather, secure for a hook and loop glove, and the inside took a few tries to get used too in comparison to my ringsides which felt like satin but eventually it felt "good" in its own way. I was honestly expecting to feel some really noticeable gel type thing that would feel cool/cold to the touch but its not really noticeable. You may want to purchase the lace version and get some hook n loop converters. I just thought about it now, you could lace em up when you have time/people to help you and if you don't strap on the hook n loop converter, so it theoretically would be the best of both worlds. I don't know how good the converter is so I can't say.

I have the Rival Elite Bag Glove (looks sick), and the first thing I noticed when I put em on is, "Damn these things are really small." Not glove compartment wise but overall. Way less padding then my Title Gel World Bag Gloves (which offer amazing protection and 16oz weight). The thing with the Rivals is that you know when your not punching the bag right because it will hurt more compared to the Titles which are very protective. Also the ergo strap gets it on really tight :boxing:.

Winning brand's overall quality is unmatched(and unfortunately, so is their prices, lol) everything else is child's play.

*****END THREAD*********

Anyway, if ya can't afford Winning's. I strongly recommend Ringside! But only their pro model gloves, but Ringside in general is solid quality.
