SquareCircle 09-05-2006, 05:48 PM get your abs strong if you're boxing guys that much bigger than you, reason being the stronger your abs the more effective youll be able to slip shots.explosive situps.
when shadowboxing, practice slipping to your left, and skipping in with a left hook. im guessing you have a good left hook if you have a good left uppercut.
if all fails you could just fight cheesy, tie your man up repeatedly and he'll keep pushing you off him if you fight better on the inside than he does...When he keeps doing this his shots will be weaker and him, much more tired.
Nate Dogg 09-05-2006, 05:51 PM yea... but the real problem is the reach difference when ever i try to get inside they just start jabbing and dance away
Toddy 09-05-2006, 05:57 PM "squarecircle" is usually the expert when it comes to this stuff so i cant give much pointers. it might not be the most interessting way to wear an opponent down but clinch the man quite a bit to get him into the rythm of it then after a good few quickly push off and slip in a left to the body to bring him down or at least wind him. have a friend throw a few punches at you (not full scale, a bit slow) then get into the habbit of expecting punches so that your awareness becomes more focused and sharp then tell him to speed up the punches (when you feel your ready, have him wear gloves). use that in your next fight so that you know when a punch is comin and can side-step it and lay in an uppercut or hook (whatever feels more natural.) thats all the advice i can think of up. i hope it helps mate

thats where the body shot comes in. like i said build your awareness so that you can parry the jabs and slip inside

fraidycat 09-05-2006, 06:36 PM Hey, Nate. I'm short for my weight class, too -- 5'9" 175 lbs. I weave a lot, feint a lot, and use a peekaboo style. Feints -- fake punches -- are my gold in the bank. Fake him out to get him moving, and then slip in and nail him. :boxing:
There was a kid on here posting under the name of "Exige." He posted a vid of him shadowboxing and he had some sweet moves that I've incorporated -- the main one that comes to mind is engaging and disengaging at a 45-degree angle, instead of rushing straight in and out. You can probably search for his posts on here and if the vid is still up and you can find it, check it out.

explane man,lol so jabe to the head rush in and then get ma shots off?
NJFighter91 09-05-2006, 08:14 PM Keep slipping the punches which are gonna be mostly jabs by bobbing your head and when they keep missing their jabs from your slipping, you keep jabbing to the body/face and when you get close enough, throw hooks and uppercuts.
It's not easy, so it'll take time.

Exige Jr 09-06-2006, 09:02 AM Fradycat, im still here brother. This is EXIGE.
You wanna get on the inside? Ok flick the jab. You can do it with mean intentions or not... I would say not really, if your aim is just to get inside. Remember that getting inside can only be done in certain circumstances... its easier to get inside when the opponent is on the ropes. Ok so you have thrown the jab, and presumably stepped in whilst throwing that like you are meant to. At this point the opponent has probably just stepped back. If thats the case just step in again and you are on the inside. The jab is the most effective tool for getting inside. Because as you throw it the chances are they wont try and fight you they will try and run. Now this is where the next part comes in handy. As you have thrown the jab and getting ready to step in make sure you are doing loads of head movement. Shadow box it first. But for instance; jab, roll and step in. The jab stops them doing anything, the roll stops them from hitting you as you step onto the inside, and the step in puts you right next to them. As soon as you are there just unload. I would say body head is the best way.
Hope this helps, this is what I do. If all else fails. Feints will come in handy. But remember, perhaps the most important thing is the head movement as you are stepping into their body space.

I coldn't have said it better, Im 5'10" and fight as a heavyweight. I took a page out of Tysons repetoir and learned to slip quickly and make my apponent pay for the miss. (dearly) with Some sick body work followed by the Upercuts. Sounds like a style you could use. watch Tyson and Dempsey You could benifit a lot.
BmoreBrawler 09-06-2006, 04:29 PM Move forward continuously at a high speed so that by the time they "dance away" youre in their grill.
Nate Dogg 09-06-2006, 04:32 PM hye guys just back from training if you dont all rdy know it was me that posted this thread. i tryed all the teckniques today and i couldnt beleve how much more aggresive i was fighting allow i wasnt trying to take there heads off i was still fighting really like an agressive fighter i was constantly getting them on the ropes and backing them in to the corners. the best teckneque i used today was moving from side to side and as soon as i felt they were gonna through a shot i was doging to the left and emegitly throuing a left hook right upercut combo and then eather going streight to the body after or pushing them in to the ropes and sliping a fast jab then a lot of combos. still if u guys have any more tips i,d love to have them cheers
