View Full Version : Hatton in Major Trouble
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 09-20-2004, 01:48 AM Uh oh. Looks like Hatton is in major trouble. There wont be any weaseling out of this one.
Arum has just announced he is ready to bring Miguel Cotto, the WBO Super light champ, To the UK to defend his title against Mandatory challenger Ricky Hatton.
Frank Warren seemed to downplay their challenge and stated they would try to fight the winner of Tszyu vs Mitchell. Yeah right.

lol If this does go through and Cotto beats the hell out of Hatton I will be a Cotto fan.
I've been waiting for someone to finally get this little ****.
I know it's mostly Warren, but it's not like Hatton has been trying to get anyone.
Winter 09-20-2004, 02:10 AM I don't even know who Hatton is. I better leave this topic.
doomeddisciple 09-20-2004, 02:38 AM Awesome.
At least this will finally put Warren and the UK Hatton nuthugging brigade something to talk about.
On Arum's part its an excellent idea - He's got a guy he has complete confidence in and can use the belt as leverage, if Hatton and Warren turn this down - May Hatton serve drinks and beat up on locals in a Manchester pub...
S0UTHPAW 09-20-2004, 03:04 AM ...... what happens if Hatton KO's Cotto. Warren will never let any of his fighters leave their block let alone the country. I like Hatton but it might be better for his career if he loses and dumps Warren to get some real experience in the states <shrug>
doomeddisciple 09-20-2004, 03:21 AM Southpaw - if that happens I will say - "All hyped prospects should be forced to fight one another from now on before making a run at the cream of the division".
PRboxingfan 09-20-2004, 08:45 AM Cotto retires Hatton.
As a matter of fact, I believe that if it were Cotto in the ring with Hopkins on Saturday night insead of DLH, Hopkins would be contemplating retirement after losing to a blown-up Junior Welterweight.

dont be so ridiculous. I take it you are joking or are you seriously suggesting Cotto could take out hopkins if so please do sort yourself out :D
Let see bout Cotto dont forget Lovemore Ndou and Pinto aside he has been feasting on blown up lightweights, Pinto is relatively unknown and untested so we cant use that as a yard stick. At tie sin the Ndou figth he looked far from emphatic.
Yes he does look fabulous you cant deny this but while his attributes are plain to see hios deficiences may not be. The fact that he is basically left handed and boxing orthodox is not a plus, the fact he is left hand happy is down to the fact his right is pretty much ****ed from the car crash he was in a while back. Take a look he throws 3 x as many lefts as rights, what happens if he damages his left hand in a fight?
Also do you not think that the real top contenders , the proven mem will look at this and develop a strategy. We havent seen anyone back him up yet, whats he like then?
While I agree he does look like the new sensation there are too many imponderables as yet to be declaring him as the next Duran / Sugar Ray etc etc
Id like to see him fight mitchell or mayweather, believe they could have the styles to really give him problems.

Dont most fighters that use the jab like cotto does use the left more than the right.. hehe only logical right?
yeah indeed but not so overtly.
Im not slagging cotto off he looks great merely pointing out there may be some deficiences that arent so apparent to the eye.
Dark Destroyer 09-20-2004, 09:48 AM If Cotto would have been in the ring with Bernard the bout would have ended even quicker and Bernard would have been victorious. Cotto is a good fighter but he's not great yet, maybe in 5 years time but not yet.
ballsy move by arum, i really wouldn't like cotto to go to the UK but i do think that he'd beat hatton pretty handily. u all are crazy, cotto would have DESTROYED hopkins
i'd just like to see the dissapointment on everyones face when hatton declines the cotto match, then mitchell and tzuyu (both have said they're moving to 147 after this fight) are unavailable and he fights for his first real (vacant) belt. probably agains't ricardo williams. i'm sure FW can get him a #2 ranking in a couple of months.
PRboxingfan 09-20-2004, 11:16 AM I think FW will be too scared of putting him in with Cotto, even in Manchester. Cotto will probably have to fight Gianluca Branco or something because nobody else will be available to fight him, other than Hatton, come January.
Gatti is mandated to fight Floyd but Jesse James Leija said recently that they are extremely close to inking a deal so I have no clue on what's going to happen there.
Floyd is only looking for big fights, so he's out.
Vivian Harris wants to fight before the end of the year so I doubt he'll be up for a fight in January.
KZ and SM are fighting in November, then moving up to 147.
Who's left for Cotto? It will probably be another unknown fighter since nobody is really available. I wish Ricky would take the fight and then we'll see if he's for real or not.
amen brother, and ill be first in line to get tickets if cotto signs, actually bearing in mind recent events I may well wait til a week b4 and get ringside, theres always a few left.
i went for the supposed pinto fight, that ended up with pedersen, electric atmosphere tho , really makes the hair on your neck stand up thinking bout it.
Living in london its an expensive weekend to watch non competetive fights and I wont go til he fights someone worthwhile. Plus I get my live boxing fix at the york hall, as a small hall venue its the mutz nutz.
Voting with your feet I believe its called.

i'm going with "or not" ....
Boxhead2012 03-16-2005, 12:31 AM Ricky Hatton is very fat. End of sory
dcgun 03-16-2005, 02:29 AM Indeed there are deficiencies, rd 3 against Chop Chop proved that.
Kimmy 03-16-2005, 06:57 AM I believe Hatton will be in shape in the Tyszu fight. He has always been in shape in all his other fights, he`ll be ready for his beiggest fight of his career!

Is that Danny Green in your Avatar?
phallus 03-17-2005, 01:21 AM ha ha ha, after KT softens hatton up, Cotto gets whatever's left ( there might not be much ). i'm really looking forward to this, now

Yeah, damn he fought **** on the weekend. Got up at 7am on sunday morning to watch it and could not believe what I saw. If he had of started the way he finished the fight would have been over within 3 rounds. Very dissapointing! :(
chubb5000 05-03-2005, 11:02 AM Yeah mannn, kostya is going to flatten hatton.

any reason for bumping up 19 year old threads other than this little gem of wisdom?
