anyone who likes these guys are straight up ***gots.
THE REAL NINJA 08-26-2006, 11:03 PM I like some of their old stuff but now they are more pop then hip hop. Then again I always thought Bone Thugs was more of a R&B rap mix even thow they have some hardcore songs .

Whats Hip-Hop?
The only reason Hip Hop didn't die out like Disco is because it is so diverse and its not one thing.
RAESAAD 08-27-2006, 12:55 AM anyone who likes these guys are straight up ***gots.
Bro it is totally Hip-Hop by definition.......like it was way back when sugar hill gang style.I know it is different and admit that I don't feel it like I felt their older **** but man it is decent music depending on your mood and ground breaking as always.......yo props to Outkast for not giving a **** and doing for the love of the game and still not doing what Execs suggest.........
the traveler 08-27-2006, 02:21 AM I thought that Aquemini was good and Stankonia wasn't bad either. But after that, they've gone wacko. It started getting bad with Stankonia. I agree that it isn't hip hop. Hip hop is focused mainly on rapping with r&b influences from time to time, but this new stuff has so many different elements: Soul, jazz, etc.. , that you'd be mistaken if you labeled it as hip hop.
I hear a lot of people commending them on their willingness to experiment. But, I think that you should commend great experiments. Andre's diversion to singing is not close to great; He's a terrible singer!!!. It's looking pretty bad for Outkast now, as far as the hip hop community goes. I've heard a lot of rap fans say that they're not feeling their new stuff.

Good post overall and I guess I am one of those "experiment" believers because I think it works.......by far this is their worst CD but they have always been so great I can knock em totally for this and I don't exactly not like it either,it just won't be something I crave.
sisforshaq 08-27-2006, 03:05 AM ATLiens, Southernplayalistik I consider classics. Aquemini was damn close, I also was feeling Stankonia. There 2 new realses I didnt like as much. Although the track Hollywood Divorce is hot off Idlewild.
Smokin' 08-27-2006, 03:05 AM that album is such ass.......that **** aint hip hop whether you want to think it is or not.

it's called "genre bending"
MetalVomit 08-27-2006, 12:29 PM Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik=classic
ATLiens=classic
Aquemini=Classic
Stankonia=4.5 (B.O.B.=one of the greatest songs of all time, IMO.)
Speakerboxxx/Love Below=decent, 3.5. Solid experimental album
Idlewild=below average, only a handful of solid songs.
Outkast are hip hop, just because they cross boundaries and try new ****, doesnt mean they're not hip hop. This new album is the soundtrack to a movie that was set in a time BEFORE HIP HOP was around. Outkast=top 5 greatest HIP HOP group of all time.

You're biased as hell but thats another story. My beef with them is just because their **** is different, doesn't mean it's hot. They are making this bluegrass, country hip hop **** and they think it's hot, but it's not, only to fans like you.
They are both very talented but now they are just getting embarassing. To say they are hip hop is a disgrace. WTF was up with Hey Ya? "Roses really smell like Boo Boo Boo"...yeah that's really hip hop there, bucko. They are not appealing to their hardcore, ATLien fans and it's a shame.
They need to recategorize their stuff, because it's not rap/hip hop. It is some corny, bluegrass, country, space age bull****. Whatever they're smoking, I need to get my hands on it.
Smokin' 08-27-2006, 01:37 PM I have now just added Outkast to my 'pop rap' genre:
Outkast
Gnarls Barkley
Black Eyed Peas

I agree...although I didn't really enjoy Stankonia that much. I only REALLY liked Humble Mumble and BOB off that album. Rest was decent, but not my favorite stuff.
They are certainly one of the greatest groups of all-time, that ain't up for debate.
Smokin' 08-27-2006, 02:06 PM They are one of the greatest groups for sure, but their **** out right now and the last couple of albums are pretty wack.
PATO 1 08-27-2006, 02:22 PM so why post it in the hip-hop section
oldgringo 08-27-2006, 02:37 PM They are one of the greatest groups for sure, but their **** out right now and the last couple of albums are pretty wack.
I can't disagree that Idlewild was garbage. There are maybe 2 songs off it that I like (Hollywood Divorce is the shhirt).
You can obviously tell that they are going to two different directions as artists. Big Boi wants to rap, Andre is on planet Xandar.
A solo effort from Big Boi with production from Organized Noise would be hot.
Biolink 08-27-2006, 03:25 PM Every since Hey Ya came out I have been caling them a Pop R&B group.
MetalVomit 08-27-2006, 03:58 PM You're biased as hell but thats another story. My beef with them is just because their **** is different, doesn't mean it's hot. They are making this bluegrass, country hip hop **** and they think it's hot, but it's not, only to fans like you.

How am I "biased as hell"? Our opinions differ, oh well. Speakerboxxx/Love Below was a double album, one Hip Hop(Big Boi's disc), and one R&B-influenced (Andre's). I agree that The Love Below disc isnt hip hop, and it's not supposed to be. However, there's no denying that Outkast is a hip hop group, and one of the top 5 hip hop groups of all time. Again, in case you missed it, Idlewild is NOT a good album by any means, it's below average in my opinion, and it sounds the way it does because it's the SOUNDTRACK to a movie that is based in a time BEFORE HIP HOP was around. That is why it has that weird ass vibe to it.
OutKast is an American hip hop duo based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Its original musical style was a mixture of Dirty South and G-Funk; since then, funk, soul, electronica, rock, spoken word poetry, crunk, chopped and screwed music, jazz, and blues elements have been added to the mix. The duo are André "André 3000" Benjamin (formerly known as "Dre") and Antwan "Big Boi" Patton, both from the Atlanta area.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OutKast
"OutKast is one of the most successful hip-hop groups of all time, having sold over 20 million copies of its six releases: five studio albums, a greatest hits release, and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, a double album containing a solo album from each member of the duo. Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is one of only three hip-hop albums to be certified diamond in the US for shipping over 10 million units, the other two being MC Hammer's Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em and The Notorious B.I.G.'s double-album Life After Death. Despite the group's commercial success, it has maintained an experimental approach in its music and is widely praised for its originality and artistic content."

Amen to that. Considering this more than likely cements the rumor that Outkast is finished, I think I'll put up a "best of" Outkast tonight. Be on the lookout.
Sir_Jose 08-28-2006, 12:04 AM Am I the only one who thinks Speakerboxxx/Love Below is one of the greatest albums of all time?
I really dont get how people have such a loew opinion of this album. Maybe its because I listen to all different kinds of music and not just Hip-Hop

I'd say it's a solid, 4 mic album. Didnt care much for the Love Below, but it was ok. Speakerboxxx was nice.

I thought it was a decent effort and I listen to just about every genre of music out there outside of country. It could have been much better. Some of the songs were excellent, some just didn't work whatsoever. A bad song is a bad song, regardless of whether you are "trying to be creative" or your prior reputation.

They are far from finished..They are the only guys today that can go plat. and make great music as individuals or as a group..
The word is that they both will be dropping another solo album then a group album like early 09...It cool because they both will be all over each others albums..
