As the winds down we have some serious disscusion in the Hip Hop lounge. I am proud to be a part of it and cant wait for an exciting year of more Hip Hop talk.
Questions before the school year begins...
Best Album of Summer 2006?
Biggest Let Down?
Best Song?
Album Lookin Foward to Most?
1.The Big Bang- say what you wanna, I just enjoyed the hell out of this album. Busta did his thing for sure. Perfect fit to Aftermath. I could say The Boot Camp Clik's Last Stand and Ray Cash's were hot to but Busta gets it for me.
2. The news that Nas is going in a pop direction for his latest album. What a shame, If Nas truly goes by this. I say **** him. Oochie Wallie was enough club for me Nas...
3. I am looking foward to AZ's The Format album the most so far just based on my dedication to listening to Az (2nd to my boy Gringo) and his lyrical ability. Plus adding some Primo beats and some other real producers doesnt make a bad album. Cant wait AZ!

Ahhh...good thread I was gonna do something similar. Anyway, my selections are are follows:
My favorite album of the summer was Ray Cash - "Cash On Delivery". It was a very solid effort from the Ohio artist, mixing southern and east coast flavor smoothly. There were a handful of exceptional tracks and nothing really skippable outside of maybe one track on there. There were great guest spots from Beans, Face and Bun B. All around this album was just fun to listen to. Cash sounds like a cross between TI and Pimp C, but his vocal ability is pretty solid.
The biggest let down for me was the Gnarls Barkley collaboration and the Idlewild soundtrack. I am a huge fan of all of those artists involved with both, but neither really lived up to my expectations. I felt like you can tell that Andre & Big Boi are on two different musical planets (Dre is on planet X while Big Boi just wants to rap). Cee-Lo is one of my 10 favorite hip hop artists, but I wasn't feeling the rollercoaster ride that is Gnarls.
My favorite song was EASILY Ray Cash's - "Here I Stand". It's not a spectacular track in any lyrical regard...kind of your hood relevance, "I'm here to put my mark on hip hop because my life before this wasn't working" thing. The beat however is incredible. It's layered well, makes great use of its sample, its funky as hell and contains fat bass kicks that keep your head nodding. I believe its a Barry White sample. First time I heard this song I played it over about 5 times immediately I liked it so much.
I am also anticipating AZillas album like no other. He is my favorite artist...I don't really need to go into detail. I just hope it is as good or better than the exceptional AWOL was. I hope more of those "Final Call" tracks show up....like "Magic Hour", "You Know", etc.

Best album of the summer, and 2006 so far, is The Roots-Game Theory. This album is amazing from front to back.
Biggest let down is Busta's The Big Bang. Busta didnt bring it like he has on every single one of his previous albums, this is by far his worst solo album, although it's decent overall. Add Outkast's Idlewild to that list. I was excited at first, but after listening to it a few times, it's below average, easily Outkast's worst album.
I'm looking foward to Nas' new album, Swollen Members' new album, Beck's new album, and hopefully, Rakim's new album.

I'm looking forward too new Nas, new Game, new Raekwon, new Talib and Papoose's first real album. Wu-Tang has dropped some quality **** this year, I think they are coming back. Ghost's album was insane, and so was Meths.
