I just read on DHB that this fight is close to being signed.Despite the early stoppage in the second fight, does anyone see a need for this? It's pretty obvious who the better fighter is at this point! But anyways, let me throw a quick question out there for the MMA experts. How do you think a prime Shamrock would do against Ortiz?Would the result be the same?Would the severity of the beating be the same?Or would Ken pull it off?

the fight is signed. its taking place on October 10th and its gonna be on cable for free on ****E TV. i think they are doing this bout to make up for that shady 44 second stoppage at UFC 61 that people paid out the ass for to watch. As for Shamrock in his prime against Ortiz, id still take Tito. Ken would gas probably by round 3 or so and Ortiz would pound the crap out of him for either a TKO or a easy decision win.

Yeah I guess the fight is signed, I really don't see any need for it though. In Shamrock's last couple of fights against Sakuraba, Ortiz, and Franklin it seems as though he has no chin anymore. Sakuraba, who rarely knocks people out, stopped him with an offbalance cross. In the Franklin fight after a couple shots on the ground Shamrock really didn't even try and defend himself, he just took it like against tito.
The question about Shamrock in his prime is an interesting one. I would go with Ortiz though and here's why. In the beginning of mma everyone was really only getting adjusted to the new sport. Over time camps like Team Militech, Team Quest, etc. took what was effective and discarded the rest. Shamrock's technique in the early days was far superior to most other fighters. As time went on however, everyone else progressed but it seemed like Shamrock and the Lion's Den did not (with the exception of Frank.) Maybe the layoff while with the wwe is what did it. Today's fighters, like Ortiz have far more superior conditioning, training, and versatility than even the best of the mid-90's. I don't think Shamrock would be able to knock out Ortiz (but of course anything's possible), but I really think Ortiz would simply outlast Shamrock winning by ref. stoppage or tko.

I have a lot of respect for Ken and think he is (was) a great fighter but does anybody really expect a different outcome?

Mataleao hit it good. Back in the day the Lion's Den was way ahead in grappling and especially leglocks. They also had EXCELLENT conditioning. They looked very good against 'primitive' fighters in the sports infancy. They did however lack stand-up and a good 'bottom' game. As the fighters evolved, they never filled the holes and thus fell by the wayside.
Frank made his greatest strides when he trained with T. Kohsaka and Maurice Smith (The Alliance). That was a BAD ASS group of guys.

Exactly right, Shamrocks technique is obsolete now. The sport has continued to evolve and Shamrock while still physically gifted doesn't have the technique to compete at the top anymore. Prime Shamrock would lose to Tito for that reason. Its the same reason prime Royce would lose to the top welterweights in UFC and Pride.
