my hands aren't as big as i'd like them to be, is there any exercises I can do to get them to become the size of a gorillas hand? same thing with my wrists as well.

Don't think there is. Genetics I'm afraid is the only real way of you getting big hands.

Your stuck with your hand size. Why do you want your wrists bigger. It will make your forearms look smaller. Just do exercises to get both stronger.

Hm, there are muscles in your hands. Maybe if you found a way to exercise those your hands could get bigger.. don't really see what getting bigger hands achieves, espescially if it's for aesthetics, since girls would probably prefer a small/medium sized hand than a big meaty oversized hand to hold like mine :D

In any case, if you have huge forearms your hands look strong no matter what size they are, since it's the forearm muscles which make the hands squeeze.

Google forearm exercises, or go to www.bodybuilding.com, they will help

i have some pretty impressive muscles in my hand one in between my thumb and fore finger and the other behind my pinky this makes my hand look a bit like a club while i'm making a fist,

you cant really get the bone structure any bigger that is genetics

k but lets say I got one of those captain of crush hand grippers, and use them often would it be possible to make my hand strong enough so it ends up evening out? hand strength vs hand sizeNo because hand strength doesn't affect punches. A larger hand though is heavier so it'll hurt more.

Not really. Jake LaMotta had tiny hands and look at all he did?
I wonder which one are more succeptable to breaking.

Damn. 15 inches at 15, that's sick.

Are you sure? 15 inches for a grown man isn't average or even near. And you're only 15.

JohnTheMon91

I know.. I have size 11 feet, which isn't exactly huge, but for some reason my hands are bigger than any person I know... I guess when i'm fully grown i'll have huge wrists as well, since hands grow before them.

just as a question, how are hands measured for boxing? I usually get the tape measure then wrap it around a clenched fist.

fraidycat

15"? Damn. I'm a mechanic by trade, and it's just over 13 1/2" around my knuckles when I make a fist. I wear size XL gloves. Granted, I'm only 5'9", so they look like monkey hands. I am told I hit very hard; having big hands probably helps.

With hands that big, you should've taken up piano.

NJFighter91

George Foreman....6'3''-6'4'' being 220+ pounds had only 13.5 inch hands. So 15 is large for a grown MAN. But if you're measuring it right and you're 15, that's really good.

I hope you all realize that there are ZERO muscles in your hands.

The muscles in your forearms control the bones in your hands. But in your hand it self there ARE NO MUSCLES.

thats true for the most part but there are at least two muscles in the hand or at least in my hand! one between my thumb and forefinger and one between my pinky and my wrist

hands have muscles, but your not likely to isolate them really. I measured my hands from the clenched fist again, yes, they're 15", in fact a slight amount more than that.

Your hands are the last thing to stop growing.

If you have small hands at a young age, they'll soon grow.

10-11" is average for a 6' tall grown man. 12" is a big hand measurement. 13" is huge, and 14" is ****ing enormous. 15" is Sonny Liston freak level. I don't think I've even heard of anyone under 7' tall having hands bigger than 15". Are you sure you're measuring right?

Mine are about 12" and they look pretty damn big on my 5'9" 185 lb body. I do have pretty big wrists too which saves me from looking like some kind of clown.

Anyway if your wrists are really that big, all the power to you (ha ha pun intended). You will probably hit like a mule kick when you learn to really punch.

I wasn't bull****ting when I told someone on this board a few months ago that I have big-ass hands. I have broad palms and big steelworker knuckles so they don't look disproportionate until I shake hands with you. And I do believe that it helps me hit. I also have 36" sleeves and a 30" inseam, so I've gotten "knuckle-dragger" comments since I was about 15. I wear long sleeves a lot and dark shirts, which helps. I'm just built weird. Fencing was the first sport I found where having super-long arms and powerful hands was a big bonus. Boxing is the second. If my legs were longer I'd have made a great wide receiver.

Agreed, 15" knuckles is freakish. Jon, does your family have a history of acromegaly?

i dont know if your measuring your fist properly buti have 13" fists at 6'5 240lbs and foreman had 13.5" hands i believe so either your measuring wrong or your a bit of a freak at 15! (no offense)

large fists are less likely to break when you connect with an opponent so they are definately a good thing

Are you joking. Every movement of the body is because of muscles. When you thumb wrestle and press down on the other person's thumb, you're using thumb muscle.

JohnTheMon91
08-24-2006, 04:25 AM
I think what he means is most hand movements are caused by the forearms... but they aren't all controlled by them

Jesus Christ man....I mean really...

THERE ARE NO MUSCLES IN YOUR HANDS.

All of the movement your hands make are controlled by the muscles in you forearms. Those being wrist up.

There is tissue in your hands however its not muscle tissue.

Once again there are no muscles in your hands, not even one.

There is tissue which goes from your forearm muscles to your bones which cause the movement, that tissue is however not muscle.

All of muscle that controls your hands is in your forearms. And the tissues in your are tendon tissue.
