For his eighth studio album, Queensbridge MC Nas is taking it to the clubs, "I want it to be bangin'," he says. "And if you want it bangin', you call the dudes with the bangers." In this case, the dudes are Timbaland, Pharrell, Scott Storch and Dr. Dre and hip-hop's newest "it" producer will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. "This one is gonna broaden my audience back up to where it needs to be," says Nas. It doesn't hurt that he's got rap's reigning king, Jay-Z, behind him; the former foes buried the hatchet, and Hova signed Nas to Def Jam in January. Hard drums and crowd chants rule the Will.i.am-produced title track. On "War," a song about the politics of warfare, Nas trades verses with Damian Marley. "it has the head nod and that rocka bump," says Nas' co-manager Mark Pitts, who also confirms that Nas has been in touch with Michael Jackson in hopes of recording with him. "It's gonna show Nas' potential to cross over from hip-hop to pop," says Pitts.

If this is true. RIP Nas, We had a run but I will move past you.

Seems like everybody wants to put out generic club songs anymore. I was very disappointed when Bubba Sparxxx came out with Ms. New Booty after two decent albums. LL Cool J's "club songs" haven't even been good lately. Mobb Deep, too.

And now Nas?

**** him. If your ****'s good enough, pop accomodates you. You don't have to go pop. What a waste...

Yeah if this is true this is a major let down. I am pretty upset with Nas.

Nas saving hip hop?

I don't think so. I remember when Nas was saying Jay-z was a pop rapper now look at him.

It sounds interesting to me, I want to hear that song with Damian Marley. Also I want to hear him rap with Jay-Z and Rakim.

Not surprising.

I'm the one that told everyone he would come running to Jay-Z. He just isn't charismatic. That's the truth. Dude made me flip the channel when he was talking on that MTV show where celebrities go to colleges and teach students something. Plus he was the only musician to bring someone with them (his dad). I think that says a lot.

It translates to his music too. He has good music but damn I find myself yawning at times. He needs these big name producers who can do that "catchy" hook that he can't make. Jadakiss can't write hooks either. Common too is in the same boat (lol and Common still can't sell which I think is absolutely priceless). It's known he needs help to cross into mainstream.

This article didn't surprise me one bit.

Why would anyone be surprised that Nas would go commercial after selling his soul to Jay-Z?

Couldn't agree with you more. Nas has never been able to create an exciting album. He's one boring guy.

Yeah, I'm serious. He makes good albums with great lyrical content, but the majority of his albums are pretty boring. Stillmatic is probably one of his more exciting joints.

I agree hes not really exciting, he just never had that charisma that some other rappers have. But as far as quality lyrics hes one of the greatest of all time. Illmatic is reguarded as one of the greatest albums of all time PERIOD.

Don't get me wrong, Nas is my 2nd favorite rapper, but he's just not that exciting. And it's not cause he's for the thinkers, I just think it's his personality. It's part of the reason why his flow never really changes and it's the same boring way on almost every track. There's not too much flamboyance in him. On some tracks he's exciting, mostly his unreleased ****, though, but his albums are mostly boring.

I can listen to Illmatic from beggining to end any day. I agree hes no Ludacris though.

I doubt that Nas would go pop at this point in his career. And who says that Nas went to Jigga? I've never heard either of them say who presented the idea to whom, if someone has an article where either of them talk about it, that'd be great if you could post that. If anything, I'd believe that Jigga would be the one to ask Nas to come to Def Jam. Jigga has always respected Nas lyrically and even a while after their beef he acknowledged Nas as one of the few lyricist left in the game. It's known that Jigga's been one of his fans (not saying that's bad regardless of what hiphop heads believe. Everybody's a fan of somebody) and I doubt that that's changed.

As for Nas falling off, I don't hear it in his music. He hit a low point in Nastradamus after putting out a classic in Illmatic and following it up with a very solid album in It Was Written (which I favor over Illmatic). I Am was cool, but it seemed to stray away from what Nas is really about lyrically. Stillmatic I think brought Nas full circle back to where he should be as an artist and I think in that album he realized it. God's Son was a very personal album and went into his personal life (he hasn't done that much on any of his other albums). The Lost Tapes, what can I say? I didn't hear a joint on there that wasn't tight. Street's Disciple didn't need to be a double album, but tracks like: A Message to The Feds, Nazareth Savage, Coon Picnic, Streets Disciple, Suicide Bounce, Sekou Story 1 and 2, Rest of my Life, Live Now, Virgo, Getting Married etc. Make the album pretty nice to my ears.

Tracks that didn't feature on the original releases of his albums like: On The Real, Star Wars, Don't Body Yaself, etc. also tell me that he hasn't fallen off just yet. He'll never rhyme to same types of beats that other artist are rhyming to today, so I don't see why cats are still talking about it like it's a new issue. As for hooks, has that become what this genre is all about? A tight beat, good hook, and subpar lyrics about the same thing that every other artist is rapping about?

He actually changed his style up a bit on "virgo" He was emulating Slick Rick though, and was outshined by Ludacris.

Same here. I got the album for my 15th birtday, over 7 years ago, and I listened to it every day straight for up to 6 months. It's a hell of an album. It makes your head bop because it's so sick lyrically and instrumentally, but after listening to it, you're only thinking about the lyrics. I don't find myself getting hype or excited when listening to it. It's more so of an analysis.

The best way I can put it is like a film critic going to see some Titanic and then going to see something stupid like American Pie or Scary Movie. While you can appreciate the beauty and grace of Titanic, you may get kind of bored by it.

Ludacris is garbage compared to Nas IMO. I don't think he's going pop either. I think he'll just get some more jumpy beats not change up his style.
