View Full Version : Traps Cutthroat 08-19-2006, 10:36 PM Does working out your traps. increase your punching power? Ringo 08-20-2006, 12:08 AM Anatomically speaking, no. Traps don't help punching power, only because there is no "load and fire" or "contract and release" stage that the trap muscle undergoes when throwing a punch. It does play a big role in boxing, however. Strong traps mean a good connection between your head and upper back/shoulders, because the muscle is much larger than people think. If the trap muscle is strong, your head is less likely to move like a bobble-head if you catch one to the cranium. Less head bobble means less vertigo interuption. Very, very good thing. NJFighter91 08-20-2006, 12:29 AM I never found my trapz being used during boxing, but what Ringo said seems to be right. Cutthroat 08-20-2006, 04:32 PM They can also help you keep your arms up right? I mean since the traps hold your arms up, and when you're boxing your arms may get tired... Smokin' 08-20-2006, 04:36 PM Ringo said it perfect when he said:"Anatomically speaking, no. Your front/rear deltoids are mostly responsible for arm fatigue. Traps help you keep your arms in front of your body. If you pick up your hands like your in a boxing stance, you can feel your trap muscles stretch forward. If they are strong and well conditioned, this constant stretch will cause you to tire slower. Good thing, considering if you let your hands sit at shoulder width, your going to get punched in the face. NJFighter91 08-20-2006, 09:36 PM I never get tired trapz, only shoulders. |
