So I read about Marciano punching underwater at shoulder depth to get power, and I'd figured I'd give it a try.

Problem though is that my feet end up shifting just as much as my upper body because of the water resistance. Do you guys know how Marciano solved this? Or is it just a sign of bad technique.

He did it in water shoulder height. You can't do it in a 5 foot pool and bend a lot. Go to a local pool and go to the deeper end.

I am at shoulder height though. Jabbing is fine, but if I do anything with large hip torque like a hook or cross, my feet will just slide along the bottom instead of gripping it.

9 times out of 10 if you practice enough you should eventually solve the problem. dont concentrate on trying to move swiftly or throwing everything into it, just keep it simple and gradually build your speed and explosivnes instead of expecting it to work immediately just be patient and it will come to you

does it really provide that much resistance, wouldnt weighted punches be better? Although weighted punches dont work the muscles in the same raitio I guess. Do you do this in a local pool?

Do you do this in a local pool?I think it works better because it's that resistance throughout whole whole body. I've tried this once and it feels 10x better than weighted punches.

Marciano also had to work on his balance, so maybe this helps.....
