Three times today I have had my anti-virus program tell me that one of your adproviders was trying to give me a trojan.

http://64.34.181.51/adrun/exp.wmf

That's where one of them came from.

Is there anything you guys can do about this?

I have no idea but it's complete bullshit.

I understand that advertizers serve somewhat of a purpose, but what's to gain by giving people viruses and trojans?

It may not be an ad, maybe something someone put in a post. Unless someone posts the exact page where they got hit, or the exact ad - I have no idea where it would come from. The exploit in question does nothing from what I know, I have yet to see it pop up for me at any time.

No, do not use Microsoft's antispyware stuff, there are much better things out there.

BitDefender is one of the best antivirus softwares out there, so I'd recommend it. It's far better than Norton's, or McAfee, or Panda.

Firefox does not block viruses. You can get them just the same using this browser. I've gotten them while using Firefox (Well, never actually infected because my antivirus stops it, but I've gotten the warnings). It's dependent on the site.

Since not a single person has been able to tell the popup causing the exploit, I have no idea on how to track it down.

It has not happened to me at all under IE 7.0 and Firefox.
I use both Mozilla Firefox, and Avant Browser.

Avant is basically IE with a few of the features of Firefox, mainly tabbed browsing.

It happened on both browsers and as far as I know, it wasn't a pop up.

It was a randomly generated ad on this site.

I constantly check my computer for spyware/adware/viruses and I'm clean.

However, there were three times in which my anti-virus alerted me to an attempt to either download/install/connect to one of your ad providers and their trojans.

Because it's not a pop up and because it's randomly generated (as are most ads on sites), it's hard for us to pin point it.

Isn't there something that can be done on your side?

Yeah, I don't know what's been going on.

If it's either the multiple pages loading, boxingscene's occassional downtime aka pages not loading and having to be refreshed to load, or if it was due to that trojan trying to load with the whole page.

There are different ways and different tools needed for viruses, spyware, and trojans.

It's not a worm, the ad company in question is using a wmf image, which is creating false alerts on virus detection programs, because many hackers hide trojans in wmf images. The trojan in question is nothing more than spyware. The ads have not come up for me any more, I think we were able to block them out.
