Great game. Liverpool are not far off Chelsea and Man U anymore

No way, Liverpoool are always a different outfit in Europe, but as far as winning the Premiership is concerned, they're a long way off. Not enough depth in the squad to compete with Chelsea and Man Utd.

Look on the bright side, at least the behavior of the Micky Mousers wont discrace our nation again, Im glad they lost.
It would have been mayhem in Moscow with Mancs and Mousers. And the sounds of eh eh calm down its not our fault

HAHAHAHAHA

It wont be too long Adie until Forest are back in Europe mate, well perhaps it will but you can hope cant you....

Great game last night, I thought Liverpool were unlucky over the two legs with the own goal, the Chelsea offside goal and the peno they didn't get.

Man U will probably win but I would prefer Chelsea for obvious reason.

Is Torres injured? Hope so cos we are playing them on Sunday!

going head to head I agree, but over a season Liverpool falls short.
need a few good signings and sort out off field probs.
one of the best games I have ever saw last night great stuff from Liverpool, I wanted Chelsea to win becasue I feel they have a better chance of stuffing the Man U twats.

rested, he rested the ****er for most of the start of the season, If Liverpool had of played him more often they might have been a bit closer to the top than they are, great player, one of the sharpest players in the game, if rafa goes he will follow, Rafa does some strange things but he is a top class coach, both teams last night were fantastic, Slack Bladder wants to stop amost all over seas players from our league including the EEC, which he thinks he can get around the labour laws of Europe.

Fair enough but there's nothing to play for now; he's got young legs and is Liverpool's most valuable asset.

Just remembered, he will be playing for Spain in the Summer so yep I take it back he should get a rest, and with Babel, Kuyt and the bean poll he is not needed for the run in.

Seriously mate Riise is still a great player, he is only 27 but he doesn't fit in with Rafa's plans. If you are offered both Riise and Crouch for Barry then you have the best deal by far and the Liverpool fans would kick off big time.

Last season Liverpool were offered 18m for Crouch alone, its only becuase we have Torres that he isn't playing every week. Most Liverpool fans want to keep the big man.

I hate to see Alonso go, but I guess it has to happen.

It was also hard to see Garcia leave but that had to happen too. Garcia, Alonso, Riise and a few others were so integral to 2005 . . . .

Edit: Am I the only one having trouble picturing Crouch working with the other Villa attackers?

if Pool have Mascerano ,Gerrard,Barry in the Middle they will be defensively sound but who is gonna make the play who is gonna dictate from the back like Alonso cause niether Gerrard,Mas,Barry are particularly good passer of the ball

id perosnally be worried as a Liverpool fan having Barry & Mascerano ,Gerrard ,im not hating or anything but Liverpool biggest problem is creativity & losing someone like Alonso & replacing him with someone like Barry will only make Pool more defensive & take away some of thier offensive capabiltiy IMO

Is'nt Alonso inconsistency down to his injury problems recently though

Agreed, his passing range is phenominal which can't be matched by Barry. I can see him leaving though, he'd be missed greatly.

Yeh, it's because he's English. They're always a ****ing rip-off! Alonso is twice the player of Barry but if he's discontent at the club the best thing we can do is get rid before he starts to cause trouble!

Reds like look of Magpie Milner

Newcastle winger James Milner is a reported target for Rafa Benitez, with the Liverpool boss keen to offload Jermaine Pennant in part-exchange.

Milner, 22, has already racked up almost 100 appearances for the Magpies since his £5million switch from Leeds in July 2004.

The hard-working midfielder, who is also interesting Aston Villa, has also been a key member of England's Under-21 side and is understood to be keen on a move to Anfield.

Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of Milner, who netted three times for the Magpies last season, and boss Kevin Keegan has already rejected out-of-hand a swap deal involving former Birmingham winger Pennant.

Midfielder Danny Guthrie, 21, has also been offered to Keegan, but the former England manager has set his sights on striker Peter Crouch.

Crouch, who is high on the hit-list of former club Portsmouth, has numerous admirers, but the £15million price tag is so far proving prohibitive.

Bentley has better technique and control

and he has a better range of passes short and long

Milner is a good passer of the ball but mainly long range and his technique is inferior he does not have the first touch of Bentley either

Surprised to see that we are after Robbie Keane, dont get me wrong I really rate him but I didn't think Spurs would even contemplate letting him go.

Apparently Ramos is a huge admirer of Crouch and the deal will involve a swap plus cash.

I'd be sorry to see Crouch go but Keane would fit in nicely with Torres as well as offer good cover as first choice striker.

The word on the street is that Benitez wants Keane, David Silva and Gareth Barry (plus the two full backs we have already signed) this summer.

Barry has been arguably Villa's best player for the last few seasons and has developed into one of the best centre midfield players in the country.

Ok, there's an argument in that agreed.

Barry for Alonso, I agree with that, we are looking sell Alonso for 15-18 mil and buy Barry to replace him, personally I would rather keep Alonso...

Keane for Crouch, Crouch is a good player but he is not able to play in a similar role to Torres nor could he sit behind Torres. Keane could.

Silva I believe is better than most of our squad. He would be in competition with Babel, Pennant, Kuyt, Benayoun. He is arguably better than all of those, he would at least be playing opposite sides to Babel who is a quality player.

Therefore outside of Barry I belive that those players would enhance the squad.

Every transfer in the 10+ market that he has done has come good. If he could get the puthos he wanted over past few years it would be game over: Aguerro, Quaresma, Alaves, Villa and Silva!

yeah i agree then u should seperate those division one titles from the Premiership titles of the other clubs we all know division one was easier to win

Liverpool 4 - 1 Valerenga
Alonso
Torres
Benayoun
Ngog

The young lads looked impressive again last night, played some nice one touch football, Darby, Spearing, Plessis, Nemeth, Isua, looked good. Ngog got on the scoresheet again.
The only concern being that Gerrard went off injured and looks likely to miss the champions leauge qualifer 1st leg away to Standard Liege.

Don't be daft mate, the first division ran during an era of football that was more of a level playing field, the Premiership has spawned an era of football that is dictated by money therefore the richer clubs just get richer and bigger therefore it is far easier to stay at the top once you have gotten there. Hence the top four.

Man U for example have dominated the Premier League, why? because they produced a great side in the early days of the Premier League and the money rolled in, since then they have been able to almost buy the league.
There was a lot made out of Liverpool spending big last season but United spent far more and they were the current champions!

During the first division days there was a possibility of as many as a dozen clubs who could win the league, also for huge hunks of that period when Liverpool dominated the points were 2 for a win and 1 for a draw therefore it was far harder to build a lead.

The players are better across the league these days but its relevant to the period, therefore how is it harder to win the Premier League than it was to win the League Championship???

Also would you not concede that its easier to win the CL these days than before?, Liverpool started very poorly last season but due to the league set up were able to qualify and ended up in the semi's, in days gone by they would have been out long before then.......yes Liverpool have benefited from a recent win but we won four other titles in the 70's and 80's so......

well IMO it was more competitive back then because the league had more emphasis on aggression and application and more importantly the league was filled with inferior English players

it is much harder to win it these days because the top players in the top clubs are better than ever and most of them are not English they are foriegn players who emphasise more on technical ability

Fair enough, this is only my opinion mate,

Yes the league was filled with less technical inferior players but its relative, these inferior players were dotted across all the teams just as the so called better players are dotted across all the teams these days therefore that cannot be used in the argument.

The main difference between now and then are that there is so much money that teams like Chelsea can go out and buy the players to challenge and even win the league therefore for a certain number/few this league is far easier to win.

When Liverpool won the bulk of their titles the players they had came through good scouting or the boot room allied with great management from people like Shankly and Paisley. They would bring a player in and sit him in reserves for two seasons then promote him, now almost every player is bought ready made.
Don't get me wrong Ferguson built Man U back up doing the same thing but since the Beckham/Giggs/Neville youngsters came through he has basically bought huge every time.

Its much easier to win the league now (for some) and its even easier for those being relegated to gain quick promotion due to this ridiculous parachute payment.

Plus for most of the first division years teams only won 2 points for a win so.....it had to harder surely???

Competitive top flight football is in crisis, unless the 'top four' go into a super league or something the majority (not all) of other teams below them will fall further behind unless something is done, what that is I'm not sure?

Hey Micky my intention was not to take anything away from Liverpool how strong the league was is beside the point Pool were the best team around back then and they beat who was put infront of them and their consistency alone was something to behold ,all i was trying to do is get on Fernando Torres nerves for being such a biased twit and talking smack about everyone elses team whilst bigging up Pool every 5 minutes

That clip doesnt bother me to be honest as it was an England match.
Ronaldinho never managed that in the 2 legs for Barca a few season back, which would have upset me more.

I like Kuyt, hes hardworking, and playing on the right of an attacking 3 as he has been doing lately suits him more than being an out and out attacker.
But a 6million profit for what we payed for him would of been a decent return.

The 16 million could of gone towards Barry, instead of talk of an Alonso tranfere funding the move.

Personally, id rather keep Alonso, Kuyt and Benayoun (Roma have been in contact with Liverpool apparently), and try fund for Barry by selling Vonarin, Pennant and maybe Finnan, and ading a few million from are own funds.

16m is an over inflated figure but thats the market at the moment.

People who dont follow Liverpool look at Kuyt as a bit of a joke because he came as a striker and is not good enough to score 20 + goals in the Premier League.

What seems to be forgotten is that before he converted to a striker he was a right winger and a good one, the guy scored 88 times in 129 games for Feyenoord but Rafa always seemed to play him as an attacking midfielder therefore he never got a chance really to prove himself as a striker.

Last season he went back to his original position as a right sided attacker and he looked far better.

Kuyt is a good footballer who can score goals (one of the top scorers in last seasons CL), he works his nuts off in every game and was one of the better players in the Dutch team in Euro 2008.

16 mill seems a lot of money but the fact that a number of teams including Hamburg are even discussing buying him shows that there is a market.

Tom Hicks has now come out and said that they are not prepared to pay 18m for a 28 year old player, I guess unless Villa drop their asking price (which they wont) then the Barry deal is off.

I feel sorry for Barry, this must have ****ed his head up.
