Southpaw Stinger 08-02-2006, 11:15 AM Sonny Liston and Larry Holmes did real damage with their jabs. I can't think of specific ones but it's happened, just not much. Kayo 08-02-2006, 01:40 PM Didnt Oleg Maskev get knocked out by a jab by Lance Whitaker? fraidycat 08-02-2006, 03:38 PM I would imagine it's physically possible, but I'd think that modern mouthpieces would make it pretty hard. Doesn't the straight punch KO by knocking the jaw back into the skull and jarring the brain? That's exactly what the Shock Dr., etc. have been designed to prevent. platinummatt 08-02-2006, 04:05 PM no its by the sharp turning of the neck that shuts off the blood from the cartriod arteries, shutting down the brain NJFighter91 08-02-2006, 04:15 PM I think you can KO with a jab if the opponent is about to get KO'ed either way. Like, getting a KO with your jab in the first round is hard if not impossible. aljon 08-02-2006, 04:37 PM I think you can KO with a jab if the opponent is about to get KO'ed either way. Completely agree... 2OSouzaSuarez12 08-02-2006, 05:03 PM Almost two years ago i knocked some kid silly with a jab in a street fight, but street fighting is dumb and I know that now. But yea he jumped in at me and I just flicked a jab out not to hard and he fell over and I started kicking him. Ukr_Alex 08-02-2006, 06:18 PM I knocked a guy down once with a jab in sparring. Just flat on the chin and he fell heavily. yrrej 08-02-2006, 06:22 PM Very, very rare to achieve a KO in the ring with a jab, even among the greatest jabbers of all time. The angle of the jab has to be just right, which it usually isn't, since it is used to set the other guy up for the real power. Knockdowns, however, are not unheard of. And sometimes the jab borders on a hook, so it's hard to draw the line exactly. I saw Hagler knock a guy down with his patented "jump jab", thrown with his dominant hand actually. Of course, it's entirely possible a heavyweight could knock out a much smaller weight with a jab. |
