I was just watching Return of the Warriors. Guy Mezger looked like a fully competant fighter, he stunned Silva with a couple of high kicks and escaped the thai clench with fists ablaze. Unfortunately Silva intentionaly headbutted him and Mezger was wobbly thereafter. It was an intentional headbutt because Silva's head came in hard and direct. Guy Mezger was unable to recover and even after the fight was a bit dizzy. Quadros had mention the headbutt but never acknowledged it afterward. When Silva exited the ring I saw the look of hesitation in his face as if he knew what he did. Watch the fight and you will see.

Although I like silva for his intensity and ability to take a beating I am not impressed. I wouldn't limit that to he alone. In a fight you either do what you have to or get beat up but he didn't do it a la Wes Simms against Frank Mir, there was clearly devious intentions and hesitation afterward as to anyone noticing. Now I hope Liddel puts on the performance of his career and sends Silva back to Brazil in a body cast.

Yeah man, that was a vicious headbutt, you could hear the corner man screaming "HEADBUTT, THATS A HEADBUTT!". What can you do, Silva is an animal. He went 38-0 in brazilian mma which has no rules at all, inculding groin shots. Instincts took over, Mezger wasn't complaining after the fight.

He did break the rules, but I think its been commonly accetped that with or without the headbutt, Mezger was on his way out at that point. He did put up a good fight though. And it was at Pride 10, not 11.

Although I believe the headbutt helped things along a little bit, Mezger was already on queer street before it connected. Silva also holds the ropes alot when stomping people, and kicked Gilbert Yvel in the nuts so hard it broke his cup. Atleast he doesnt poke people in the eyes....

if wand got away with it, it's more on the ref for not callin him on it.

yah it might suck that he got away with it, but i haven't seen wand do anything of the sort since. it's also questionable whether big nog threw a headbutt in his contest with fedor that was stopped. does he qualify as a cheat?

Nog didnt throw no headbutt, it was Fedor who caused it by pulling the legs and lunging forward....

Silva will be forced to fight a boxing match with Chuck. And this means that Silva will have to take a good deal of punishment before getting to his usual grappling moves. Silva has very strong leg kicks though.

His usual grappling? I say that Chuck takes more punishment in the first round than he's takin in the past 3 years. Win or lose, Chucks gonna come out looking the worst....

That headbutt was certainly a turning point in the fight but I don't think Mezger could have hung with Mezger for much longer anyhow. Silva's tko'd some nasty opponents like rampage, sakuraba, fujita, and kondo... guys who are a lot tougher than Mezger. And his grappling skills allow him to hang in their with anyone, i.e. arona, yoshida, and henderson. But let's not forget... Mezger's no slouch... sure he's lost a ton of fights but they're all to top guys like silva, ortiz, liddell, and arona. And he's given all of them a battle.
