OLDEST PROFESSIONAL PLAYER EVER IN NORTHERN LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME
This just in - another episode in the long-running effort to get Buck O'Neill enough recognition to be voted into the Negro League wing of the Hall of Fame. This time, the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League (an independent outfit) have signed him to a one-day contract and O'Neill, who was a former Negro League star as well as the first black coach in the major leagues, will lead off the Northern League All-Star Game on Tuesday night.
Most significant is that O'Neill, who is 94 years aold, will become the oldest player ever to play in a professional game, although technically speaking, this is an exhibition, so those interested in trivia can argue about this for years. So how will he do in his at-bat?
The Charles Jay Line
