View Full Version : How to convert tapes into DVD?
VeneTKD 11-12-2002, 01:30 AM I have tons of MMA tapes and i want to convert them into DVD, because i am afraid i will lose the footage due to the magnetic **** that happens to tapes.
Post all the **** you know of how to do that, and the costs and **** like that. Understand that i don't know much about it and i will like some advice in the subject.
VeneTKD 11-13-2002, 02:27 PM ttt where are the geeks in here?? somebody help me out.
Mr. Beelzebub 11-13-2002, 02:38 PM ok.
you are going to need a cable that hooks your VCR to your computer, it's commonly known as a dongle.
Obviously you need a DVD burner. And the MS Movie maker.
Allison 11-13-2002, 02:40 PM OH!! Is it that homemade ****!?
James Fulton 11-13-2002, 02:44 PM haha dongle
VeneTKD 11-14-2002, 01:11 PM Yeah Allison I got that tape....if i can get that **** connected you will be the first one to see it. It is not big deal actually. It just me making out, grabbing her ass, grabbing her breasts. The ****ing part was taken out. But I might have a homemade ****o movie coming out soon. I am talking my gf into it.
She said yes...but then she is a flake sometimes.
How much does it cost for all that stuff?? mr beelzeub??
Allison 11-14-2002, 01:16 PM OK!! Let me be the first!!
VeneTKD 11-14-2002, 01:19 PM The funny thing is I did not know i was being videotape. I would have perform better and work the angles for the camera.
I did have a homemade **** video with my ex..but she made me erase it in front of her. that one was high quality. I know some ddues would have jerked off to that one, because she was real hot.

PittyPat 08-04-2010, 01:15 AM Shiiiiiit, that is some graveyard stuff right there. :laff2:
But in all seriousness, it's a good question. I've got loads of tapes I'd like to archive, but I don't know where to begin. I want them all made into MPEG-2s which I can store on this PC, so what do I need?
Hi-Dro 08-04-2010, 01:20 AM can any1 post pics along with explanations
TBear 08-04-2010, 01:32 AM Ok I didn't think anyone would need an answer. But it is what I do every day. I recorded two rooms full of tapes and for the last few years I have been spending time converting.
They made it easy by putting out dvd recorders. I got a panasonic recorder that has vhs and dvd. You can record from vhs to dvd with it. There are also ndifferent brands out there but I have used a couple of the panasonic's and they have worked good.
After I convert the vhs to dvd I put the dvd on my computer and use a program called tmpgenc W/dvd author 3 to edit out the ads and the program will then reburn the finished product to another dvd. TMPGEnc has a version 4 but I have both and like 3 better personally.
There are plenty of other programs that do this and the TMPGE costs money. If you get a free program remember you get what you pay for. Many of the programs are also availible on the web.

My previous post explained getting a vhs to dvd. Once you have a dvd, put the dvd in your computer. look at my computer and see the dvd drive. Click open on that and you will see a file called VIDEO_TS that folder can be sent to my documents. Inside that folder will be files. the files called VTS_01_1 and VTS_01_2 etc. are the video's. There is a free program called vob merge(google it for download) and join the vob's to make one video(vob flie). Then to convert it to mpeg2 or avi or any other format you will need a converter. Handbrake and mediacoder are two of the more popular ones. Media coder is free and can made almost any format. There are plenty of free and others you can purchase that will work.
Note;for most converters if you don't use the merger first the second part could have out of sync audio.

Oh yeah, I'm totally familiar with that last part. I edit .MPEGs .AVIs and .VOBs all the time. It's just the transfer from VHS to raw digital MPEG-2 video which had me stumped. Shouldn't I just buy a cable to hook up my VHS to the PC? I hear that gives better results, because I don't want to compress anything.
Plus, I don't have a DVD recorder.

The dvd recorder is the key. A long time ago I tried hooking up a vhs player directly to a computer. Really did not work. Splurge or save and get the dvd recorder. VHS tapes will not last as long as dvd's. Plus dvd's can be worked with in a computer.
There is a program called Mpg-vcr that converts the vob to mpeg format. It does not sacrifice quality either. The end product can easily be burnt to dvd. That program does cost but I might be able to help you find a free version.(again you would want to join the vobs first-see earlier post).
But to do any of this you need to convert it to dvd first. It is the missing link between your vhs tape and your computer where you can convert it to more desirable formats.
