Do any pro boxers or any of you guys use more than one style of fighting? I'll use myself as an example:

I'm 6'1''. If I fight someone shorter than me; around 5'9'', I could use my reach and jab against them (I don't know what this style is called :o ) But if I fight someone 6'6'', I have the disdvantage on the reach. Against this opponent, I would bob and weave a lot and the the peak-a-boo style.

Is it possible to have 2 completely different styles of fighting based on your opponent? Do any pro fighters do that now?

thats what boxing is, the most common styles for people to have are boxers and brawlers

i usually box if im the taller or faster guy

i uslaly brawl when im the stronger and shorter guy

diego corralles is a good example he boxes and brawls

micky ward is a brawler

ali is a boxer

it certainly is. right now, i have at least a dozen main styles/strategies for dealing with different situations.

yeah, when you use your height and reach advantage, that's an outfighter. and having different styles is a hybrid, which change styles depending on the opponent. i don't see the disadvantages in that actually. only makes sense when they always say styles make fights.

So far I've never had to change my style, because every person i've fought has been shorter and weaker than me, which I basically just box them.

If I'm the taller fighter, is it better to charge at the person offensively or wait for them and counter their stuff staying more on defense?

It's all about adapting. You have to figure out what suits you. No one here should say that you being the 'taller boxer' should sit back and counter punch or aggressively pursue someone ala tommy hearns. keyword here: adapting. You will know what to do once you get alot of practice/experience in.

Hardly would you want to charge someone. Just get on your angle and make sure you have enough distance to flare your jab, if they even come near you. They'll try to slip to get in so be sure to bring your hands back quick, because they'd want to counter off of you. Plus you could either just knock off a body shot from your elbows or you could just roll with it and take your own peice off of him.

Just to add to what I've already wrote. From my experience with boxing with being the taller fighter your opponent would love to cut you down and go to the body. They'll be on your body all night, if you display great footwork.

Ok, thanks a lot man. Because sparring today, I was against a short guy and the trainer said to go offense on him and to do all the attacks so they could just see what I got. It was VERY uncomfortalbe offensively fighting a shorter person.

As long as you keep your chin tucked in and stick to the gameplan your coach tells you to do, you should be all right. Besides wasn't it your first time sparring?

The bag isn't fighting back so that's why it's working for you. Once you try to do that against someone who knows what to do you'll be cleaned up quick..

No fighter sud be one dimentional, sometimes ur usual style will be useless against some oppositon and u will have to change.

Ok, thanks for the replies guys. At my gym, no one in taller than me, so I just have one style of jabbing hard and staying in the middle. I haven't seen anyone taller than me that I'm going to need to spar anytime soon, except the trainer's son who is like 6'4'' but he's a pro so I'm not gonna spar him anytime soon :D

You should work on your infighting also. Riddick Bowe was a towering heavyweight who was able to fight very effectively on the outside. He was even more effective on the inside.

You've got to go with what you do best and have it perfected to the point that it nullifies what the other guy does best. If you have to be switching styles away from your strength trying to finding something that works, meanwhile he is imposing his strength on you, you are lost. Very few great fighters effectively changed styles or switched sides during an actual fight, although some, like Gatti and Hearns, changed their style as their career progressed. It is a desperation measure.....
