I've been boxing for about a month now, i know the basics, jab, cross, and just a little of the hook. In a few days i will be fighting someone outside of the ring. My opponent has no experience in boxing but can fight. he has a powerful right hand and not so much a left. he likes to wind up for that hook or the powerful straight right. i am alot faster than he is.we are about the same size but he has about 15 more pounds than me. iam 156, he is about 165. if i use the jab will it be effective? (12 oz gloves) i might be winning the rounds but 1 of his punches could change the whole thing. iam just wondering if you guys have any techniques that i could use. it would be helpful. thanks. suggestions?

put ure hands up n let ure elbows absorb his punches. If hes untrained he'll jus keep throwing them there, ****in up his knucles and wrists.

I hope your not using boxing just to fight outside of the ring. Beleive it or not, just because you know the basic offense of boxing doesn't make you the world's best street fighter nor the world's best boxer..

Boxing means **** for fighting outside. If you started boxing just to beat people up outside the ring, forget it. Start up wrestling or something because that's what most fights end up as.

Hmmm i think u sud walk away and be the bigger man. U got nothing to prove to no 1 but urself.

If my words of wisdow cant be crowbarred into that thick cranium of urs and u do have to fight him then dont rely on the jab, every shot sud be a knock out shot and u should plan to finish him quick.Try and get the first punch in. It will be over in a few seconds. Just make sure he dosnt get u on the floor cause u will probably get stomped and plan to keep it on ur feet, and if u hit him good and hes rocked then go in for the kill.

Fight only if he starts on u or this guy is giving u some major agro and he just needs a good old beating.

hey thx for replying... its like a normal boxing match.. without a ring... same rules and such. no punching when hes on the ground. so in order to counter the right hook i should keep on moving and everypunch should be a knockout punch?

If your faster then use your speed to keep away from that wind up for the hook it shud b easy enough and wen he mises then take advantage. Keep your distance for a wile until he gets frustrated the use a simple combo like jab, straight then hook.
