You mean All Stars? I think the next one has been officially labled "3". I own all 3. By far better then the Fight Night games. The Fight Night games need to step up the pathetic AI. And maybe get a half way decent career mode going...

What exactly is it like? Is it as customizable as FN is?

Victorious Boxers 2 in the UK is actually Hajime No Ippo: All Stars in Japan. The third entry in the series. VB 2 (JAP) hasnt been released outside of Japan.

The fighting looks a bit arcade style, but it still looks great. How customizable are the boxers? Tasseled shoes and fancy trunks?

If you're talking about the UK version VB 2 or VB All Stars (JAP) there is no customization of the boxers looks. The main mode of play is Arcade/Story. You go through the storylines of various fighters from the manga. I don't follow the manga/anime, so I don't know much about the characters, other then what I've learned from playing all 3 games.

VB 2 (JAP) has the deepest career mode you'll find in a sports game. You can costumize your created character from tons of unlockable trunks and shoes and the like. You even set there diet. Fight in multiple boxing organiztions. Unify belts. All that good stuff.

The flip top allows you to open up your PS2 without reseting or shutting off the system. So you can use Magic Swap to play back up copies or imported games in your US system.

I think they are by far the best boxing games out there. So, yeah.

To clear up some confusion, which this thread has lots of, by the way.

The order of the games released:
1. Victorious Boxers
2. Victorious Boxers 2 aka Victorious Road
3. Victorious Boxers: All-stars (also wrongfully called Victorious Boxers 2: Fighting Spirit, which is the cause of all this confusion).

All three games are easily better than the Fight Night series. However, Victorious Boxers 1 is a little dated now. Victorious Road and Victorious Boxers All-stars are both very much worth getting. Any boxing video game fan should own both.

If you can only own one game, Victorious Road is the game to get. It is the one with the most amazing career for any boxing game ever.

If you're interested in getting either game, you can PM me and I can hook you up.

Understand, you do need your PS2 to untake a minor modification, but it is extremely easy. You get something called a fliptop case and swap magic disc. You can install it within 5 minutes easily. I've had over 25 people come to me via PMs/emails and every single one of them easily installed this with no problem whatsoever. They're now all very happy owners of these games.

Every single person I've helped get the Victorious Road or All-stars games agree, the games are much better than the Fight Night series. It does take actually playing the games for many people to be made believers.
