I've been reading around some threads on boxingscene and I hear rabbit punches. All I know is that there not legal and cheats. Do they just mean cheap puches or is it specific stuff?

It means hitting someone in the back of the head. It's extremely dangerous, kills the brain cells, and causes bleeding of the brain if it's a hard enough hit.

I was just reading the thread on Nigel Benn and how he used rabbit punches and other cheatful tactics against the other guy (forgot his name)

I think that rabbit punches should never be used. They're very dangerous.

I think that rabbit punches should never be used. They're very dangerous. They're against the rules though right? I mean, if you keep doing them, the ref's gonna deduct points or is it just frowned upon?

They're against the rules. I think a referee should disqualify somebody sooner for rabbit punches then they would, say, kidney punches.

punches around the back in the kidney area are also considered rabbit punches but yeah, the most common usage of the words are for punches in the back of the head.

Question, where is the liver and where are the kidneys? Because I know kidney punches are illegal but liver ones aren't? Kidneys are in the back but where is the liver? I heard that a left hook to the liver is killer and I want to try it in sparring.

NJFighter91, certainly not trying to sound rude, but i take it you're in grade school? i'm just asking because basic anatomy is something you learn in grade school. it's alright if you are, it would just help me gauge how to respond to these questions.

rabbit punches - yes, they are usually referring to the head area when the term is used. specifically, any punch that is landed behind an imaginary line extending from the back of the ear up to the crown of the head. they are particularly dangerous when a punch is landed on the base of the skull where it connects to the neck. people have died that way. watch peter vs klitschko to get a good idea of what a rabbit punch is. actually watch any peter fight for that matter.

the liver is on the right lower side of your abdomen, where the lower part of your ribs are. kidneys, or course, are on the lower part of your back.

if you plan on sparring, please go to a gym. it can be very dangerous. especially sparring between 2 non trained individuals.

Yeh, I spar in a gym.

any of you guys watched friday night fights like a week ago? it was an undercard and the guy got kod by a rabbit punch. is that **** kool? if a guy is kod by a rabbit punch and is out for like five minutes what should a ref do? the ref in fnf just counted it as a ko even though they replayed the ref seeing it clearly.

a good example of a rabbit punch is when O'neil blasted a shot to da back of mormeck's head at da end of the fight.

http://www.medterms.com/images/illustrations/Liver.jpg this seems to show it being where the solar plexus is

platinummatt, yup, that's a decent pic. although the liver is a bit more on the right side in a lot of people. it's actually bigger that people normally think, for some reason.

there are 2 basic ways to hit the liver: 1) enter the solar plexus from the middle to your left, or 2) enter by the side of the right ribcage. both work well but it is more common to see an effective liver "shocking" punch delivered from the side.

NJFighter91, no need to add the rolling eyes icon. if you're in high school, and boxing at a gym, there is no excuse for not knowing basic anatomy. combine that with not knowing what a rabbit punch is, i figured that you didn't belong to a gym. you should be able to see my side of things based on what you wrote. not my fault if you got offended, i was just trying to help you out - and also added that i wasn't trying to be rude but get a perspective on where you're coming from.

with the liver punch that is, from my experinace more painful when the punch is delivered to the middle but then again I may not have been hit as hard in the right side compared to when I got hit in the middle, (this is from boxing either, its from me and my mates screwing around and punching the **** out of each other......... Dont judge me :D

I never asked you for your opinion on if I should spar in a gym or not or what I should be learning in school. I just asked a question, not you opinion.

you are being quite an *******. i was simply trying to help you out and had stated specifically, numerous times, that i had no intent of being a rude prick.

now, you lost any respect i might've had for you.

and, if you're in high school, you ARE a kid.

Ok, I'm in high school, so I'm a kid...what your point??

J, you're in the wrong here. The grade school comment WAS offensive.

IT's like saying.

'No offense meant, but you're a retard and i ****ed your momma last night you whoreson'.

Not quite like that, but you're being very condescending. And i think you know it.

Logically, no grade schooler would be on a boxing forum asking about rabbit punches. The only explanation is that you wERE trying to offend, but covering your own ass by being all like 'no offense'.

He asked you what rabbit punches are. You could have answered without being patronising.

i'm sure there are a few gradeschoolers around here. at least a few around here act like it.

i seriously wasn't trying to be an *******. maybe my writing did come out wrong now that i look back on it. but, you got to admit, it is kinda weird that a guy goes to a boxing gym but doesn't know what a rabbit punch is, or where the liver is. i figure that these are basics. things that are learned whithin the first month or so.

the reason i asked if he was in grade school was basically so i could understand if he wanted to go into a junior boxing program, or were he was coming from, and such.

NJFighter91, dude, if you feel offended by any of my comments, then i sincerely apologize. :) no hard feelings. :)

You obviously haven't seen Waynes World 2.

Wayne and Garth are doing a radio interview, and the interviewer, "Handsome Dan", just keeps saying "Uh-huh" "Uh-huh". Then Garth says something about all the work they're doing, and the guys only response is, "Oh, well work is HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

It's a shame Martina is out now.......

i know!! sugiyama(sp?) gave her a helluva battle. at least it was an entertaining match. and atleast we still have sharapova! i do hope she continues on her comback, she didn't look bad out there. sugiyama waws just the better player yesterday.

now onto agassi - he is going to have a rough ****ing time trying to beat nadal. that's one that better get televised uninterrupted.

sharapova should make easy work of frazier. i say 'should' because we never know which sharapova will show up - the power hitting killer instinct maria, or the unfocused unforced error maria.

murray and roddick could be very interesting. it will be a helluva test for murray.

venus will probably make short work of jankovic, but i think she struggled a bit with her last performance.

it's shaping up to be a good tourney, even though there is no hingis.

I hope Sharapova wins Wimbledon. I’m not a big fan of Venus. There’s just something about her I don’t like. Murray looks pretty good so far. The face of the future. It will be interesting to see how he holds up to Roddick.

And I think Martina did all right for her first Wimbledon in 5 years. Sugiyama played well in a match most expected her to lose. She played a good game, but it was still very close.
