View Full Version : who was better?
jgisbc 06-27-2006, 02:36 PM ken shamrock or frank shamrock
i've seen some video's of frank here lately and he only really looked bad against bas rutten.
ken is ken and i've seen a lot of his stuff
but whose better?
ricecrispi 06-28-2006, 02:38 AM Frank's first fight was against BAS. The rematch was I think his fifth. From what he said I think he was only training for MMA a year before that fight but wrestled since he was a teen when he got adopted by Bob shamrock.
I think Frank is better than Ken. Ken is all about power. He tries to outpower and submissions by leg locks only. His fight against Kimo showed how ancient Ken is. No underhooks, no thai head control and other problems. In the Tito fight, Tito really exposed these flaws.
Frank is more well rounded then Ken. Quicker, more finesse, more stamina, and doesn't try to outpower.

I gotta say...I really Hate Tito. I hope Ken can beat the shit outta him, teach him to respect his elders.
1bad65 06-29-2006, 11:40 AM Frank is better, hands down. Frank was one of the first true MIXED martial artists. He trained standup with Maurice Smith, a champion kickboxer and T. Kohsaka(sp)a Japanese fighter. In the mid 90's those 3 were a very dominant force. To this day, Ken admits his bjj is no good. His refusal to bring in better guys than himself has so hindered his development it's sad.
ricecrispi 07-01-2006, 04:14 AM The alliance with Kostka and Smith also included Ken but he didn't gain much from it. Ken has too much ego too work with others or learn from anyone else. Wrestling wise, Frank is even better than Ken. Franks takedowns, sweeps, and trips are great. He has underhook takedowns, great shoots, and quicker than Ken and used more submissions than Ken.
Tito is a nice guy. He is cocky but very friendly and down to earth. Can't say the same about Ken.
1bad65 07-05-2006, 11:42 AM I read that the way the Frank/Maurice Smith relationship started. Ken brought in Maurice to work Ken's striking for an upcoming fight, saying he would work on Maurice's ground after the fight. Ken fought and when it came time to work with Maurice he was always busy, etc. He finally asked Frank to work with Maurice. The rest is history.
ricecrispi 07-05-2006, 11:06 PM also the reason why ken and frank didn't get along.
Frank went to train with smith and TK and that pissed Ken off he told Frank to leave and not come back to associate with Lion's Den. I think Ken took offense that Frank wanting to train with someone else. Also the reason why Lion's den is dying out.
jgisbc 07-06-2006, 12:15 PM where does frank shamrock fight now? why isnt he in pride or ufc?
and they dont get along?
how can you be mad at your brother so bad that it cuts your relationship with him? i dont respect that.
1bad65 07-06-2006, 01:37 PM Well they are not 'blood' brothers. They were both adopted, as adults, by the same man. Frank was so dominant in mma that he got bored of it. He had beaten, convincingly, all the top contenders in his weight class. He lost the motivation to train and knew it was better to take time off than come in less than 100%. On a side note, I met Frank once and he was a total class act.
the_fusionist 07-06-2006, 02:56 PM ...and the Shamrock name is the name of a group home or somthing.
scottyRRFC 07-06-2006, 04:05 PM yeah frank is the best out of both but ken in his time was one bad ass fighter and i wouldnt mess wit him but frank i think is the better his striking is good and his submissions are excellent arm legs and neck submissions
