When I was younger, I did. It didnt matter how much money I made. It changed when a old millionaire told me he was just like me when he was young. He didnt graduate from high school, in fact, he only went to 8th grade. (Back in the 40's and 50's, I understand that they had to work when they were young to help their parents make ends meet, well at least that is what he told me). To make a long story short, he told me to put your money that you use to pay bills in one envelope. Then, put 20 dollars in another envelope and the rest you save. You must live off of 20 dollars until the next pay day. If you starve, eat rice. He said you will learn how to live off of 20 dollars. I did learn and I saved alot of money. His lesson to me paid off. The other lesson was that if you dont make enough at a certain job to pay your bills, survive and save a little each check, then you best find another job. Now days, I believe with inflation and all, the 20 dollars will now be 100 dollars. Anyone living from pay check to pay check should try it. I hope it works for you as it did me.

good point kcf.

but all that does is teach you how to respect money. respecting money is very key!!

but just as important is the ability to MAKE it. if you don't have the balls to go out there and give it your all, then you can save all the $20 per week you want to.....you'll end up retiring with a healthy reserve.

**** THAT!! i don't work to retire happy. i work to flourish NOW. i work my ****ing fingers to the bone in the most lucrative career that my skillz have gotten me to. and i respect the money that earn, i respect the people i interact with, and i respect my very own career to the utmost sincerety.

with that in mind, if you guys wanna make it.....DO IT. you've run out of excuses. nuff said

I know people with master degrees that live paycheck to paycheck. An education may help, but its not always the answer. The more competition there is the less jobs are going to pay. Its a visious circle, today jobs pay less then they did 2 years ago because of the job cuts that have happened over the past year. Also, the first to loose their job here in MI where the white collar workers that had mastes and had nice positions in corporate america in FORD, CHRYSLER and such. I have 2 friends who used to make well over $90,000 each who lost their jobs at the same time about 6 months ago, they are still looking.

education is good. financial responibility helps too. having rich parents can't hurt either.

but you won't be **** without balls and persistence.

i know plenty of people who got degrees and then they sit around for 8 months doing nothing but going "gee, now what?"

the only people who have college degrees AND are successful are the ones who had the BALLS to go hunt for the best position they qualified for and the PERSISTENCE to never give up when times get rough.

I took a part time job as a math teacher so i live off of that paycheck. With all the bills that we have, i have to put my whole check from the hospital in the bank. my wife does too. it sucks but ill eventually get ahead of the game, someday.

I live from Paycheck to paycheck but hell..I am a college student. I don't expect to be doing that in the future when i graduate. It sucks sometimes to talk to the landlor and make some excuse of why you don't have money in the account yet and ask them to give you a few more days to pay for the rent.

Unless you have a dying wish or may be close to 80 years old, collecting retirement and social security, you need to think about your future. No one will come to you and give you money for you to be financially well off for the rest of your life. Whether a wife and children are in your plans or not, you must set long term goals. You have to strive to achieve your goal.
Everyones goals are different, but financial stability should be a core of all.

balls and persistance are the core of it all. because they will allow you the financial freedom to be ABLE to put tons of money aside.

imagine this kcf....

i could make decent wages and save decent amounts. in the end, i will retire with a good $300K to my name. that gives me a decent house, a decent hammock, and a decent last 10 years on this planet.

but if i kick major ass when i'm strong AND HAVE THAT SAME DEGREE OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AS YOU DESCRIBED, then i will flourish now......and retire with billions.

Great scenario! Good for you. Here is one right back you. Imagine that I made 2 people who owned a store, 220,000 dollars a month! It will change your thoughts! This is why I am on my own now. I will strive to reach my goal, which is only 333 dollars a day which comes out to 10,320 dollars a month. Which in less than 3 years, is more than your retirement. This has nothing to do with investment in stocks and bonds but pure retail selling techiniques. Not including wholesale sales, mail order sales and internet sales.

Reported for lying...:boxing: a Masters and yet the "people" you "know" live pay check to paycheck...yeah fukin right. I only went to college for 2 years, got an associate in process technology and I make 85-100k a year with just a little OT...way more with a little more OT because of turnarounds. I have a big house and drive a nice truck and have a very satisfying bank account. My wife is a court reporter but her stuff I won't mention...so the point is, there is no way you can live paycheck to paycheck with a masters, heck I wish I had a masters...i'd probably make over 200k a year at these plants.

Well, it depends on your field.

I have a buddy who has Master's degree in Biology and you literally make twice more than he does. He works in a lab and conducts studies at the college he graduated at.

The best he could do in this economy.

Yeah, a master's doesn't always equal to financial security, I wish the opposite were true.

I mean, what can an individual with a Master's degree in music do?

A master's degree in engineering isn't the same as a master's in psychology.

Heck, a bachelor's degree in engineering usually sets you for life, probably one of the few fields where the degree hasn't depreciated.

I think most people live check to check. I save some money each week and have some money saved up but I don't own a house or anything like that. It's tough to make it now a days so I'm grateful for the people that help out.
