View Full Version : Vice Prez Debate
Explosivo 10-05-2004, 10:59 PM What did you think?
Edwards looked good until he brought up Cheney's gay daughter. He lost a lot of points with that one and showed no class. Shortly after that It seemed like Cheney took the thing over and just hammered Edwards till the end. I feel Cheney clearly won that debate. I know there will be a lot of different opinions on this one.
marvdave 10-06-2004, 01:15 AM It seemed like Father and son to me. The used car salesman got worked.
Winter 10-06-2004, 07:33 AM I saw the debate too. Cheney looked very good. I was impressed with his words. He sounds and looks very smart.

Yep!
It was like the old man was scolding him. I loved it when he brought up Edwards attendance record.

That was good. Then the Dems come out after that saying what Cheney said was bull**** and that they met at some prayer breakfast or something, forgetting that the point of Cheneys comment was that Edwards is habitually absent from the Senate.

He looks smart, but he lies and is a very evil man.
LuKahnLi 10-07-2004, 02:35 PM I thought the debate was a draw. Those who heard the debate but didn't listen to it, would have felt Cheney won. Those who watched it with the sound off would have thought that Edwards won.
I thought Edwards made the mistake of trying to turn the debate into another stump speech. He sounded like Kerry's echo, which makes him look very weak. What he said though rang true and people will know that.
Cheney out and out LIED when he said he "never said there was connections between Saddam and Al Queda". Anybody who remembered him saying that (and he did multiple times) will know he was lying.
He also lied when he said he never met Edwards before that night. Not ONLY were both of them at the Senate Prayer Breakfast together, but they sat NEXT to eachother.
The thing with Cheney is, though he obviously and blatantly lies.....he is a DAMN good and convincing lyer. That was his saving grace. What he said was clearly not true.....but he looked like he believed it.
If Edwards went a bit more on the attack he could have done more.
All in all it doesn't hurt Kerry and doesn't help Bush.
The domestic policy debate should be a slam DUNK for Kerry.
BiggestBoxingFanEver 10-07-2004, 02:41 PM "Am I the evil genius in the corner that nobody ever sees come out of his hole?" he said. "It's a nice way to operate, actually." - Dick Cheney USA Today 1/19/04
He's still collecting 175K/yr from Halliburton. I wish Edwards would have brought that up!

I really dont think America is too concerned about Haliburton and Cheney. I know you are, but I dont think the rest of the country really cares.

So are you saying anyone who watched the debate with the sound on would have thought Cheney won? WTF?
I watched the debate with the sound on and certainly was listening to it.
The thing that bothered me about Edwards, and all politicians are guilty of this, is that he claimed to have a plan for everything. AIDs, education, health care, Iraq, Jobs. Thats all fine and dandy, but we all know damn well that if elected Kerry and Edwards arent going to do 75% of the **** they say they are going to do. I dont know, but that aspect of Edwards the politician really was evident during the debate.
The point of the whole mentioning that Cheney has not seen Edwards before is that the guy never comes to work. I dont think that very important fact has been disputed by anyone. If I was from N. Carolina, I would be pretty pissed off that 1 of my 2 Senators is regurly absent from casting votes for my state in the senate.
Isnt it possible that Cheney didnt remember meeting him or that they were in the same place but did not meet? I understand that there is video of them being in the same place before the debate and I havent seen it yet. If you have a link, hook it up.
If they did know eachother before the debate, I dont understand why Edwards just sat there and let Cheney say that if it wasnt true. Edwards certainly had every opportunity that night to say that Cheney was a liar, but he never did. Maybe he was afraid that if he brought the issue up again the focus would actually turn to the point of the comment, that he doesnt come to work to serve the people of N. Carolina.

Most of America is not informed enough to know what the implications of the Halliburton case are.
It is EVIDENCE of our leaders cutting deals with corporate America for profit. This is disturbing.

Agreed, they dont have all the knowledge, but if they did Im not sure they would care either way. Theres not much damning evidence as far as I can tell.
While it may be true that Cheney has some type of salary deferment plan from Haliburton, he is not profiting from contracts award to them in regard to Iraq. So say that would be a lie.

First of all, I was only saying that Edwards had better delivery, while Cheney had better content.
Second, I dunno about you, but I am unable to find the record of Edward's attendance ANYWHERE. Since Cheney lied about the things he said, I can't JUST believe him.
THird, you say all politicians do it.....so why are you mad at Edwards for doing it. It is their job to have a plan for everything.....whether it works or not is another story. A bad plan is better than NO plan at all. Which is what this administration is guilty of.
Kerry didn't call Bush a liar.....Edwards is not gonna call Cheney a liar either. Even if it is true. Edwards said "You are not being straight with the American People." For what ever reason, Edwards and Kerry are trying to be as tactful as possible. Time will tell whether this is a good strategy or not.
As I have said many times.....even if Edwards and Kerry are weak inneffective liberals.....its better than what we got now. At least THEY won't break things. The Bush Administration has ****ED UP EVERYTHING they have come across.

Im not mad at Edwards for doing it, I just think he maybe could take a lesson for the Bush/Cheney team and learn to be a little bit more subtlie about thats all. I think his bull****ting stuck out like a sore thumb, while like you say, Cheney is very good at bull****ting and you need to actually go out and do some research to catch him in a lie.
As far as Edwards attendance record, I have't looked but I'll take your word for not being able to find it anywhere. But I would beleive that what Cheney is saying is probably true and the Republican party Im sure has access to Senate attendace records, as does the Democrat party. Think about this...If what he said about Edwards attendence was not true, the democratic party would have jumped all over that accusation right after the debate to set the record straight. That was IMO the most damaging revelation during the debate for Edwards. The Democrat party did not dispute the attendance at all. Instead of disputing the core of the accusation, they decide to dispute when Cheney met Edwards. In effect spinning to get peoples attention of the real meat of the story. It didnt work on me, and I hope it didnt work on you.
Saying that though, I dont think Bush should be re-elected becuase of the major lapse in judgment that was the Iraq war. But, I dont really like Kerry and Edwards either. Look who we have to choose from here. Two oil men/business men, or two Lawyers! We need another party in this country.
SonnyG8R 10-08-2004, 10:49 AM First of all I was watching the baseball playoffs, not the VP Debate. Cheney's daughter is a dyke. he should either be proud of her or condemn her but not get embarrassed/pissed when she is mentioned.
If the country is pretty evenly split over Bush, they are nearly unanimous when it comes to despising Cheney.
Cheney is the only person in the country that I would want leading the nation less than Dubya.
BiggestBoxingFanEver 10-08-2004, 03:47 PM john kerry lied about being in cambodia on christmas eve 1968
Look dude, we've already gone there, John O'Neil the lead ass of so-called vets for truth in a conversation with Nixon (nixon taped all his conversations) said he was in Cambodia. Now, he is saying he wasn't. Whether they (all those soldiers in that group) were actually in Cambodia or not, nobody will ever know. The thing is after it happened they (all the soldiers) seemed to think and agree that they were in Cambodia, its all F-ing jungle. I doubt there is a sign that says "Welcome to Cambodia!"
BiggestBoxingFanEver 10-08-2004, 03:50 PM That being said, I thought Cheney won the VP debate and Kerry won the 1st Pres debate.
