What the hell is happening, me starting two threads in one day?!?!?
Anyway, I've got a problem. I want to start training. Kickboxing, MT, or maybe even BJJ. I've been a fan of MMA since I first saw it on Tv when I was in high school. I'm very athletic(played college basketball) and I consider myself pretty tough. The only training I have had has been in bars and parking lots which I admit is somewhat fun, kinda why I think I'd like training. The problem is the only place around my local is some karate kid type place that practices crane kicks and ****. I don't have much time to drive off to a class, I work 9-5. Am I just ****-outt luck? What can I do?

Check the internet for other classes. Sometimes places like gyms have bjj classes held there.
If you can't find anything, get yourself some instructional tapes so you can at least **** around. ;)

Yea, I was wondering if the tapes were any good. I have a heavy bag and a speed bag at home and I lift weights 5 days a week. It's just something that seems to attract me but I live in a small town 45 minutes from anywhere.

Ya dude, dont do the crain kicks ****, it wont help ya. Stick to lifting and make sure to do alot of running (3miles atleast a day) to keep your cardio up. Bag work is good too, but make sure not to swing like a wild man, keep then in close, dont raise your arms to the sides. As for training shoots, there isnt much you can do, work alot on back and lunges when you lift! Stay really flexiable, then it will pay off if you ever find a good school

no tapes bro, tapes are only their to help you with real training. You wont reach your potential if you only watch tapes, you neeed a skilled fighter to point out what you do wrong from the video's.
Mario Sperry's Vale Tudo tapes are fuggin badass tho

Does anyone think I should take the mickey mouse karate class. The only kickboxing class looks more like tae-bo. Neither have any contact and that's what I'm looking for.

why would you not want CONTACT!!!??? how can you expect to learn how to fight without actually doing it. Fighting without hard contact sparring is like dry land swimming

Nah, I WANT contact. I'm naturally a pretty good fighter and I want to learn some real skills. I really need the flexibilty training as much as anything. I can't raise my leg higher than my waste. Strictly a puncher now.
