Get to a boxing gym, and you will put weight on... they will teach you how to train to get max performance, and you will also gain muscle mass. Muscle mass = weight.
truecontender 06-14-2006, 01:23 PM Yh im da 2nd person in the vid, ive been boxing for 2 years, im weighing about 64-65kg n wana stay around that weight but i wana bulk up without going up in weight that much....ne advice?
Cheers
Smokin' 06-14-2006, 01:23 PM Boxing Gym's peel the weight off and make you more CUT. There is a difference between muscle look (ie. how cut you look) and actual strength.

Ok, well then you are going to need to reduce your bodyfat percentage... and start lifting weights or do an intense Plyometrics regime to build up muscle mass.
But if you are looking to bulk up for "looks" then I wouldnt advise it, especially if you are boxing. Like Smokin' said you can be strong without looking good. If you want more strength then do explosive sit-ups and push-ups, mixed in with burpee jumps, star jumps and all things like that.
If you are looking for big muscles, then pick up 20kg dumbells and lift them... but it will affect your performance im sure of that.
Smokin' 06-14-2006, 01:33 PM You can't bulk up and stay at the same weight. That's crap.

I did it....
Smokin' 06-14-2006, 01:42 PM Doubt it. Maybe you got more cut and you look better but adding bulk=adding weight. You dig?

No I got bulkier and stayed at the same weight... my arms pretty much doubled in size, my chest expanded like hell, my legs got stronger, my abs became a little more visible... and I dropped a load of fat. I wasnt fat before I boxed, but I dropped the fat and put it on as muscle again so I stayed the same.
Smokin' 06-14-2006, 01:46 PM So, what you're saying is you gained all this muscle everywhere? Earlier in the thread you said more muscle=weight. What the ****?

Yeah I gained all that muscle... and I dropped all the fat. Its not hard.
Velour 06-14-2006, 01:47 PM so how much is the pay per view?
Pork Chop 06-14-2006, 02:14 PM you can cut more water weight out of muscle than you can fat, so it's not out of the question to gain a lot of muscle, drop a bit of fat, and still be the same weight class.
truecontender 06-14-2006, 02:47 PM DA video is jkxxx tho init...also i was wondering if anyone had any punch out drills for the heavy bag?

Dude you been boxing for 2 years... you know how to punch the bag and combo's etc.
truecontender 06-14-2006, 02:57 PM But wen it cums to the weights, do u think it would be better to do plyometric exercises lyk press ups etc. Coz i run 3.5miles a day (prt frm wen training at the gym) n we do r sprints on alternate days. But my fitness is quite good i just wana be more strong at my weight coz all my fights hav been against taller opponents.
NJFighter91 06-15-2006, 07:41 AM If you wanna become stronger and you do use weights, doing a Westside or 5x5 routine is great. If you're anti-weights or just don't use them like me :) (I'm not anti, I just don't use them) in my opinion, plyometrics and heavy bag work on strength. And lots of core work because that's where all the power comes from.
This is the 5x5:

At your weight I would just do the beginners. Then once you can Squat about 1.5-2.0 your weight or when you stop gaining, do the intermediate/advanced version.
Westside is more advanced and there's not ONE routine. There's many templates you can find. Find any of Dave Tate's articles on T-nation.com He's best for getting Westside info from.
Good luck ;)
Pork Chop 06-15-2006, 01:49 PM nice to see westside and tnation get some love in here. :)
PunchDrunk 06-15-2006, 06:48 PM you can cut more water weight out of muscle than you can fat, so it's not out of the question to gain a lot of muscle, drop a bit of fat, and still be the same weight class.
But if you cut water weight out of your muscle, then you're not really gaining muscle. At least not in size.
But yeah, lose fat, gain muscle, stay at the same weight. Easier said than done for most people, though... ;)
chris_cov 06-16-2006, 02:30 PM lol good video. funny 2 watch.
Crumble 06-17-2006, 09:02 AM good video its funny, you guys from Ruislip lol, I live near there. I was kind slim like your boy there, but I've filled out in the last two years or so. Some of us are just like that I guess, im still kind of slim, but im 6'2, 11 and half stone. When I was at a gym I didnt pack any weight at all, just got some muscle definition. The only way to put on weight is to seriously eat like a mother****er. I have a mate who went from 10 stone to 13 stone in one summer, dude was looking unhealthy as **** after that though. He ws on those protein shakes and crap, but if you take in 3,000 calories a day your gonna pack on at least 4 pounds a week or there abouts.
