Cockyb 06-04-2006, 05:29 PM you have to be carefull with wieghtliftin at an early age! becase if not done properly it can harm u in al sorts of ways! so my personal opinion is to leave it out! when young u shud concentrate on own body weight exercises, i.e press ups, sit ups, chin ups! and if u seriously wana do weights, start off extremely light and master the technique or stick to machines and leave out free weights al together! safe Manfredo Jr 06-04-2006, 05:29 PM agree its a myth. i read an articel at treningsforum.no some time ago(but since its in norwegian it wont help you much). the myth was started cause off the effect on the bones. and weightlifting wasnt any less safe for the growth off bones than for example soccer. hurting your back on the other hand is possibele, so be careful and get someone to learn you the correct technic. well im just saying what i was told from a canadian Pe teacher when i was still at school a few years ago. :) LOLORSKATES 06-04-2006, 06:41 PM I wouldnt lift until your fully grown.. THE REAL NINJA 06-04-2006, 06:54 PM you can start but only short reps with small weight ...if you over do it your body 'can' start to sap the energy needed to grow ...if you do just make sure you get lots of sleep and eat right....i would hold off until arould 17 for any major weight trips420 06-04-2006, 06:56 PM you can start lifting early if you want just dont get to hardcore about it till you turn 15-17.That thing about it stunting your growth is a total myth.My dad started me lifting really young around 8 and im 6'5 270 now so dont worry about that. I dont see how bench press or curls would do much damage at a young age ... I dont see how bench press or curls would do much damage at a young age ... yea that makes sense trips420 06-04-2006, 11:12 PM maybe ....the only thing that i can really see could hurt you would be over head lifts because of the pressure on the unfinished spine. I dont see how bench press or curls would do much damage at a young age ... When i was lifting at a young age i was doing lighter weight and more reps.It wasnt till 16 that i really started to lift heavy with lower reps. You can do pretty much any exercise at a young age as long as you use lighter weights.Find a good weight that will give you a good workout at about 20 reps per set.I agree though there are about 3 exercises that could really be dangerous to a younger person if done with heavy weights ( over head press-squats-deadlifts ).I would recommend not doing any deadlifts at all till you get older beacause they put a tremendous amount of stress on the lower back. The Raging Bull 06-05-2006, 06:35 AM The bit about weight liftin stumpin ure growth is an urban myth as many a bodybuilder has said. I got my first weights when i was 12. Some really cheap plastic ones. But im 15 now and onto 10kg dumbells. platinummatt 06-05-2006, 11:51 AM what about pullups though? leff 06-05-2006, 03:18 PM what about pullups though? they are great yrrej 06-05-2006, 10:14 PM Everyone's different, but really heavy lifting shouldn't be done until a person has stopped growing taller. The ends of the bones haven't fused until then. inats 10-05-2006, 08:26 PM more dangerous is leaving the young ones on there own with the weights now thats bad!!! Kayo 10-05-2006, 08:35 PM well im just saying what i was told from a canadian Pe teacher when i was still at school a few years ago. :) most p.e teachers dont know anything, the p.e teacher im a teacher assistant for is still under the impression that 3x10 builds ripped lean bodies and lifting heavy for say 5 reps builds big bulky muscles |
