Undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins said today that following his January 19 title defense against Howard Eastman in Los Angeles, he plans to have two pay-per-view fights later this year. Hopkins said he's relying on "numbers man" Richard Schaefer to set up "something that I want to do as history and that's win the light heavyweight undisputed championship against a guy named Glen Johnson who's a friend of mine down here in Miami, to do what Ray Robinson couldn't do and that's to go right from middleweight and [win] the light heavyweight championship of the world." Hopkins also named Tito Trinidad and Jermain Taylor as possible foes. However, first he has to take care of Howard Eastman, whom he labeled as a "B- fighter," on February 19 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

I'm really shocked Hopkins is calling out a bigger fighter again

I doubt we'll ever see Nard move up the Super middle nevermind Light heavy!! With no chance of the big guys making middleweight Hopkins can will keep bluffing us.

I wish he'd man the **** up and face Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is a scared little girl, he doesnt want to fight anybody, and seriously who the **** is calzaghe anyway? you talk like he is feared or respected or something like that, he is a ***** nowhere near the level of Hopkins

Ummm. Hopkins already beat Johnson quite easily once. Why would you doubt he doesn't want him again?

He will do it to make history and because he knows he can win. Then take out Tito again and beat Taylor and retire. ;)

It's all about legacy for him, he will have his 20 defenses and possibly move up and beat a light heavyweight and retire. Looks good on the resume, especially since Johnson is the top guy right now.

I think it would be great for hopkins to make his 20th defense, rematch tito and put a whooping on him and then kill the prospect everyone thinks is the king to your throne when you go and then move up and defeat Johnson.

That would be an ideal way, of course if he beat Taylor everyone would scream rematch and say he chickened out and moved up to fight a fighter he already knocked out.

Calzaghe would have to much power for Hopkins.

Calzaghe would win by ko inside 6.

You're just a tad biased. You'll be taken seriously around here when you show you're thinking with your head.....& not with a ****ing MAP.

This goes for all of you numbnutted fools who suck a fighter's dick because he looks like you, or lives near you.

taylor this and taylor that blah blah blah fight sturm who really deserves it

Taylor deserves it as much as Sturm does.

In his prime, Hopkins owns Calzaghe. Even now I think Hopkins could beat him soundly, but we'll have to see what he looks like in the Eastman fight.

Hopkins could move up, but there are good fights in the middleweight division if he doesn't want to...(Tito, Taylor, Sturm...etc.)

Whose to say that Johnson will even have the title when Hopkins is ready? Before all the talk was with rematching against Tarver in the summer, which is a fight he could easily lose. Thing is, though, when Johnson was on FNF he seemed to be acting as if the rematch wasn't going happen. He vaguely blamed Tarver, but of course you always blame the other guy when a matchup isn't going to get done. Maybe him and Hopkins have been talking about this one for a while now.

It's still a big jump for Hopkins to make, though. Sounds like he's seriously thinking about retirement after this year, though, like he promised his Mom. Sounds like he wants to do his defence, maybe match up against Trinidad or Taylor, then move up for one big last fight.

On the Larios - McCullough telecast last night, Johnson said he would be fighting Tarver probably in May...

Glen only holds a minor belt right now (IBO). I think he's still the Ring magazine champ though.

. WINKY WRIGHT - 48-3 (25)

It took the Winkster 14 years and 50 pro fights to get the shot at Shane Mosley this year that proved that he belonged on this list. Let's hope he does all he can to make the proposed showdown with Felix Trinidad, so he can either prove that he belongs in the elite Top 5 area - or that Tito deserves to return there. Whether or not the fight with Trinidad can be made (it's being talked about for March 19), Wright proved that he's ready for the likes of Tito by beating back two spirited challenges from Mosley. In the first fight, Wright willingly engaged in in-fighting with Mosley, getting the better of the head-strong 154-pound champ before establishing the distance over the second half of the bout and coasting to an easy victory. In the rematch, Wright controlled the more focused Sugar Man with a simple one-two stick for the majority of the fight to solidify his claim as the best junior middleweight on the planet. Fight fans want to know if Wright can exert the same dominance over someone his own size and there's only one way to find out - bring on Tito!

Yeah, he only has the IBO belt, but the Ring champ is all that matters, really.

Good to know that he will be rematching against Tarver. Should be a good one.

Hopkins will beat johnson IF he moved up but why the **** should he, he's a career middleweight, you don't have to jump divisions just to be considered great.
Look at Holy he did more at Heavy than cruiser but people still say he's only a blown up cruiser!!!! Two weight champ, twice undisputed, 4 times heavy ( i know only 3 legit ) but thats some achievment for a blown up fighter, anyways if he doesn't grow old overnight, which i don't think he will, i reckon he's got 2 or 3 high class perfomances left excluding Eastman, so will hopefully fight Tito, Sturm or Taylor then grow old and very very fat ala Naz

You talk like anyone outside America gives a **** about Hopkins, he's a scared little girl who only fights smaller men. Calzaghe ruled Super middle just as well as Hopkins has ruled the Middles, its exactly the same situation, the only thing different is that Calzaghe's Welsh.

You can debate this all day but it wont change the fact Hopkins bicthed out of the fight with Calzaghe.

Assuming Johnson can beat Tarver again, I think it will be a great fight for Hopkins. Do you think Tarver/Johnson II is going to be a pay-per view, considering how exciting their first fight was?

people were saying what an easy fight for roy jones when he signed on to fight him and i bet people are going to praise b-hop for taking a rematch with johnson. johnson shouldnt take the fight instead give tarver a rematch and b-hop should take care of taylor before considering moving up. i doubt hopkins moves up anyway because he said he would fight jt at 190 but that was a joke.

Yeah, to move up by that much would have to be a gradual thing. Has to contract for Johnson/Tarver II been signed yet?

Come on now. It's not like Calzaghe tried to unify the division. It's obvious he's content with fighting sub-par competition defending I think the WBO belt.
