We have it right now, and so far, no other coast has had it really IMO. but will we hold on to it, recently, some east coast *****s been slackin. but the homey Papoose is holdin it down for us.

i think the east has something different in terms of upbringing. the west has been dominated by gangsta rap and now the bay has the hyphy movement. the south has bounce and crunk, which never really has much in terms of lyrical play, but they make dope party music. the midwest is the variable. they usually run a mix of both coasts while trying to bring up their own style. Chicago has Vakill, Lupe Fiasco, and some others. Colorado underground is gonna be repped by The Procussions and Deux Process. and of course, Em has the crowd in control in Detroit.

but with the availability of music all around, people can emulate whoever they want. give it a couple of years and a kid from the west may sound like Nas cause he idolized him growing up and studied his style.

but right now, the east has it. ya'll count Philly in the east? i mean Black Thought is crazy and doesn't seem like he gets his props.

The East Coast just has SO MANY rappers. 80% New York City alone raps haha so they have the numbers in their favor. It's just how it will be because New York City is the mecca of hiphop and it's always going to put out more rappers then anyone else. I mean,

I look at my list of favorite rappers, and it's all NYC:

Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Joe Budden (Jerz but same thing haha)
Saigon
Papoose
Nas
Jay Z
Phife
Q-Tip
The list goes on and on...

So naturally they are going to have some brilliant lyricist on their side. In the bay we got this hyphy thing dominating the bay area landscape but we still have some good lyricist. Lyrics Born, dude's rhyme schemes ar ethe best in hiphop history imo. But lyricist come from everywhere, and we got a few in the Bay, they've just been hidden behind this hyphy ****. Zion I and Latryx are my personal favs right now.

Something i noticed that may be another reason for east coast to have the best lyricists is up here, there's alot of hate. If your tryin to come up as a rapper, your own boys will hate on you the most. To avoid that, i have to use alot of clever rhymes in my raps to catch their ear. Down south, *****s seem to be comin on the scene all the time wit their mixtapes. Down there, there's not as much hatin goin on of the same kind

I understand now, but "u guys", saying that to me, would imply that you were refering to me. It's all good. Simple misunderstanding.

Producers like Rza, DJ Premier, Large Professor,Prince Paul,Marley Marl, Pete Rock... carry the torch for East Coast production, that's pretty solid if you ask me. 90% of all hip hop on the radio nowadays is garbage, no matter what coast it's coming from. As far as production credits go, who from the south can contend with these producers I've named from the east?

Better Lyrical content has always been the East Coast advantage over the other regions. It is not always the **** you want to hear at a party but if you are chillin alone high or something and you want to listen to Hip-Hop with a meaning at least in days past you would want to listen to East Coast Hip-Hop.

Honestly, southern music (Miss Fat Booty, Laffy Taffy) sounds like garbage if you wanna just chill and listen to some uplifting tunes but go to a club and that **** will make you want to dance. For real.

I'm not talkin about who's runnin the rap scene. I give to the south hands down, but lyrically, them *****s suck. Ludacris, IMO is the best down south lyricist, and he's nice as ****, but the best east coast lyricist right now IMO is Papoose. Luda isn't better than Pap. And also, After Luda, lyrically there's not much besides Outkast and i'm not sure if lil Wayne is considered down south.

The Midwest has the better lyricist in my opinion. East coast has great lyricist, but they're mostly constricted to a certain type of style. The Midwest offers more of real raps for the average type of person

MC's such as

Apathy, Slug, Eminem, Bizzy Bone, Ali Vegas, Lupe Fiasco, Royce da 5'9, Common,

I'd put those guys up against any East coast lineup. The east coast just has the old legends. The better lyricist now come out of the midwest. The east is mostly gangster/drug type of rappers.
