View Full Version : The Powerhouse of Hip Hop?
sisforshaq 05-31-2006, 09:28 PM What label is doing it right now? We got some serious labels doing their thing right now. Who do you all think is on top overall?
Personally Im gona go with Aftermath. With The Big Bang being a great first release of o6' ( I believe), they kicked it off nice. Also signing Raekwon and possbily being the label for a Wu Tang come back album, I gota feel them the most. Tight production as always and I will even cop the new Game album coming out late just for that Dre production.
Smokin' 05-31-2006, 09:35 PM right now I have to say Def Jam because they have the best rapper of all time right now in their stable. And although none of their producers are as good as Dre they got a couple damn good ones in Kanye & Just Blaze.
'Hip-Hop Is Dead...The N' is gonna be hot ****...

Thats true, I like the points. The Raekwon signing just sold me. Thats my dude right there.
Smokin' 05-31-2006, 09:41 PM Honestly, I never really have felt Raekwon. I just find a lot of his tracks boring as hell. I WILL buy OBC4L 2 though...that's for sure!
Also, just by comparing Aftermath's staff and Def Jam's, Def Jam's is better anyday...
Def Jam: Method Man, Nas, Jay (if he decides to rap again), Kanye, Ludacris, Ghostface Killah, etc
Aftermath: Dre (probably 1 more album..), Eminem (I doubt he will make another album), Busta (Big Bang is hot but he is not the best MC around), Raekwon, etc etc
Def Jam wins in a landslide.
mic573 05-31-2006, 09:46 PM Come on now don't hate we all know who is on top. You may not like them but G-Unit is running **** in the industry right now.
Smokin' 05-31-2006, 09:51 PM no way...Predicate of a Felon did not go Platinum and Blood Money is not selling what they expected...looks like they goin thru some hard times now.

They are still running **** and when is the last time Mobb Deep ever really sold big numbers.
sisforshaq 05-31-2006, 09:55 PM I just think that overall Aftermath will have the better releases this year.
The Big Bang- Busta Rhymes (very impressive)
Doctors Adovicate- The Game ( Hate The Game or not, if Doc has the production nod, it will be a hot album. Thats just how he's been doing it.)
Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2- Raekwon (The concept I last heard was Gza to play that Ghostface role, Busta Rhymes as Executive Producer, All tracks done by RZA and Dr.Dre. They will also combine on a few, which could be dope as hell)
Detox- Dr.Dre ( IF this finally drops, It will no question be a classic. Dre only comes out with that great type of album. We all know this.
If Eminem gets his head straight and if they can drop a few more decent ones from not huge name artists like Hood Suregon (Dre's son), It could be a huge year.
Although Nas's new one I am looking foward to the most behind Linx 2.
Smokin' 05-31-2006, 10:00 PM I don't like the sounds of Busta Rhymes as Executive Producer but you never know. I would love Detox to come out but I don't see it coming out for a while because he will probably be using a lot of his good beats for OBC4L and obviously Doctor's Advocate.
I don't think G-Unit is running **** anymore...When an album like Deep's newest one (with about 6 50 Cent featured songs) isn't close to going Platinum then you know you have a problem.

I think this album is going to be a huge disappointment to Wu-Tang fans. To me they are getting away from what made the first one so good. I think if they want another classic then they should go back to the original formula with just Rza doing production. You can't go wrong with Gza but I think this album should be a Raekwon/Ghostface album just like the first one.

True but times change and I think they need to drop something different that still can be a classic. The Rza formula was perfect for Cuban Linx, Linx 2 needs an edge since its the advance in the story. I cant wait for it. Plus Rza and Dre toghether? God damm... Thats history.
MetalVomit 06-01-2006, 01:23 AM i dont think there is a powerhouse record label, most records have been flopping commercially, coming from the hip hop genre.
Mech. 06-01-2006, 02:24 AM def jux?
:(
unit021 06-01-2006, 02:47 AM can we just add up all that Interscope has under its umbrella? i mean, that's Aftermath/Shady/G-Unit. that's a grip of star power. too bad they haven't put out a good album in a loooooooooong time.
Def Jam has Roc-a-fella, with the strength of Kanye. they also have some of the heavy hitters in the industry.
Virgin has the So So Def?
eh. i'm not feeling any of them. but i'd say that Koch has some good deals goin, even if they're just a distributor and presser. if i'd have to choose, i'd go with Interscope. they got their hands in a lot of stuff.

I'd say they are dropping the more high quality albums consistantly, I'm not sure how much they're selling though.
