View Full Version : Jabbing Opponents Arms/Shoulders?
jeffmills 05-29-2006, 03:51 PM Does anyone here advise jabbing or punching your opponents shoulders as a fighting strategy?
I think I remember reading on here that jabbing your opponents right shoulder is a good way to prevent him from throwing a straight right.
What other ways can punching your opponents arms be used?
Thanks.
blockhead 05-29-2006, 06:09 PM not with gloves on, but in a fight punching your opponent once really hard on the elbow when he raises his hands is a good way to numb is arm. if you hit the right spot he wont be able to throw a punch with that hand.
jeffmills 05-29-2006, 06:55 PM That's what I'm thinking of, numbing the opponents arms so he can no longer punch.
Anyone got anymore on this?
ferocity 05-29-2006, 09:31 PM yes, you can do this in boxing, practice this in sparring, just add it to your targets to hit, many times i see fighters looking for places to hit their opponet and they avoid hitting them on the shoulder or bicep, rocky marciano would hit you anywhere he could and his opponets by the end of the fight couldn't even hold up their hands.
you want somone to not throw their jab at you, hit their shoulder or hit their biceps, you do this in sparring you'll get sparring partners complaining that they hurt their shoulder or their arms hurt. hit them on the forearms too, just remember be carfull not to hit their elbows, though it may hurt them, it also stings and hurt, but its all about setting'em up for punchs you want to deliver or what is their for you to hit.
you see fighters through punch to the body with say a left hook to the body, then usally its a right hand or another left hook to the chin, well change it up, left hook to the body then left hook to the shoulder.
i used to practice this but i didn't do it enough for fear of hurting them, and coach never really let me throw hard most of the time.
but as long as you practice hitting them their, it doesn't have to be with mean intentions but just make sure you learn how to place your punchs their.

true, i think i need to edit my words better
moy22487 05-30-2006, 02:52 AM i know that you can jab you opponents hands in to there head, making them hit themselfs. Its embarassing and annoying it can trow the other guy off his game plan

yes, you can but a trainer will tell you to tighten your muscles so your fist doesn't go into your face.
THE REAL NINJA 05-30-2006, 05:38 AM Marciano did it so if you hit like him um sure ....
Pugnacious_Z 05-30-2006, 09:51 AM u gota have a hard punch to do that
ophqui 05-30-2006, 10:10 AM u can parry the left shoulder down (orthodox-orthodox) to set up an over-hand right, but i cant se how punching the shoulder will help, i can see it being countered easily unless u follow it up with something.
How do u intend to jab someones right shoulder may i ask? have u tried to do this?
hemichromis 05-30-2006, 03:32 PM yeh punching a persons arms makes their arms tired very quickly, then they start to drop ;)

i wouldnt really worry about this in amatures , cos u aint gonna get any points hiting his arms , u can try if you want but u may take a few hits trying in puting you a few points behind :(
SlightlyStoopid 05-31-2006, 06:11 PM My uncle and trainer's brought this point up a few times, and they really stressed it as an effective way to wear out the other guys arms, leading to easy shots. Never tried it though, maybe i'll try it out at sparring tonight.
