i must admit im tired of using the bench press , only because usually when your doing a lot of weight , u need a spot, plus one side of your chest is more than likely to be stronger than the other... i think im bout to do strictly dumbells... i just want to know what people think about dumbells for bench press, does more weight equal bigger chest? or more intense chest routine = bigger chest ... when i do bench press with an olympic bench i do 250 ,5 sets 8... when i use dumbels , i use 95-105 lbs ...and do 5 sets til failure. What is more effective ?

if you want a bigger chest use the flat bench and the inclined bench

This is not a bodybuilding forum....

That said, there isn't much difference between the two exercises. You can't compare the weight when it's two different exercises, so that doesn't really matter.
Why do you do 5 sets of 8 on the bench? If you're doing 8 reps, you'd be better off putting more weight on, to the point where you can only do 3 sets.
Also 5 sets to failure, is not a smart move. You'll spend way to much time resting between workouts, because your body isn't ready to train again. The alternative is injury, or overtraining.

if you are bodybuilder is the best way to work incline bench, flat bench and butterfly with dumbells.but when i go to fitnes i work only flat and dumbells and explosive moves with light weights.the best way is doing push-ups.:)

dumbells i like for core strength because you have to stabilize and equal amount of weight with both arms.

Do incline with dumbbells first than flat bench or dumbbells.
Than go for some dips and than go for some flys.
Everything 4 sets with the last setbeing drop set.
drop approximetely 30% of weight that u did. Try to do at least the same amount of reps you did the last set. The more the better though.

its good to use both so you do flat barbell bench and incline dumbells or incline barbell bench and flat dumbells. imo like incline dumbells cause u can do them infront of a mirror can check your form to make sure your getting the proper range of motion

and they give you more definition, strength second. The barbells are best for strength and size

Pure bullshit! How does one exercise give more "definition"? Definition is dependent on BF%

Barbells are no better for strengthand size than dumbells. If you claim so, tell us why.

I wasn't trying to be a dickhead. There were 2 reasons why I pointed that out:
1. You'd get better answers going to a BB or weight training forum like T-nation, than asking that stuff here. Most guys here don't know shit about weight training, other than the usual hearsay BS.
2. This training and nutrition forum really should be about training and nutrition for boxing. All this other stuff is just spam here.

i think flat benchin is a great allround exercise but purely for chest i think dumbell flies are the best

for chest i would do dips
flat bench
incline flys
decline bench
flat flys

sounds good, what i did yesterday was

flat bench
first: 1 set 225lbs -10 reps

then 3 sets 95lb dumbells-first set I did 8, 2nd 7 . 3rd 6

then for the final set i did 145lbs until i couldnt stand it anymore...

then i did incline with 65lb dumbells-3 sets and then for the fourth set i went to the bench and did 145 until i couldnt do it anymore

then i did some flies on the machine and cross cable flies on the machine ...

didnt take any rest and stayed consistant,

so is this a decent chest routine for now ? or am i over training ? i eventually would like to start boxing again, problem is when i boxed 7 years ago, i was 145lbs and i never lifted weights ... now im 200, i have to lose weight but i would like to keep my strength, so what should i do ?

What is more effective ?

Doing both is most effective. Stick with the power lifts first, (bench press, dead lift, and squats) then the auxiliary lifts second.
