nd if so, what did you think. He has still been fighting so I wonder if his age has been showing. He had two draws and a win in his last 3 fights. The draws came in KI fights it looks like, 2 rounds at 10 minutes.
What happened? Why couldn't the great Gracie win?
I've seen two of them, versus Akebono and the rematch with Yoshida...
The fight with Akebono wasn't much as all Royce did was pull the fat man into his guard a couple of times before submitting him pretty quickly with some sort of wristlock after going for an omoplata...But the rematch with Yoshida was a pretty impressive diplay of Royce's still formidable grappling talents as I think he certainly would have won the decision in that fight had one been rendered (as per pre-fight agreement, if the fight went the distance it would be ruled a draw). He seemed to control much of the action and positioning in that one.
Haven't seen the fight with the other guy yet(Tokoro), but I heard Royce didn't look so good in it and he took a little bit of punishment from a smaller guy. Tokoro was a last minute replacement in that fight, though, as Royce's originally opponent had to back out.

How often do Pride fights go to the ground?

It's relative to who's fighting. Some fighters like to GnP, but there are alot of strikers in Pride that stay standing and punish each other for the full 10 minute rounds. I could post a highlight if you'd like. :)

On new years Royce took a beating in the first Rd from a little known 140lb Japanese fighter , he then came back in the second rd .. Had the bout had judges I think Royce would have lost .
last new years He fought against a 500 lb+ Sumo Wrestler , Royce won by Submission -
He had 2 fights with Yoshida . In the first fight Royce foolishly wore his Gee in a fight with a Judo legend . I havent seen the fight in a while , but Yos was either in mount , or on Royce's back . The fight got stopped from a choke , but the view was obstructed from both there Gees . Royce claimed he didnt tap , and complained about the dec . I could not tell if he has choked out , or close to chokeing as his head and neck where completely covered by the gees they where wearing . Yoshida did have dominant position though , and likely eventually would have finished from there . For awhile it was listed as a win for Yos , but now Sherdog dont list the fight .
In the second fight with Yos they had special rules where if it went the distance it became a automatic draw . Royce didnt wear a gee this time , he looked very impressive [ the best he has ever looked ] and would have won a dec if there where judges .
