View Full Version : Fighters you've really enjoyed seeing lose

There are only 4 that pop to mind for me, and 2 of them I have had to wait until recently to see.

First was Jorge Paez. As much as loved the way he fought (he's still active, and I hope he retires at 100 bouts), and even though I know he grew up in the circus as a clown, he should have left the clowning in the 3 Ring, not brought it to the square one.
I wish I could remember who the fighter was who did it, but Paez had a habit of leaning back against the ropes, feigning that he was hurt, and when the guy started to step in, he would nail him wth a wide, wild right.
This one fighter (I keep thinking it was Rueles, but I'm not sure) feinted like he was going in, when Paez swung, he half-stepped back, then swung straight and hard over Paez's overextended right, bounced him off the ropes and deposited him straight on his face. It didn't end the fight, but Paez eventually lost by TKO.

Second was Nasim Hamed. It was his ring entrances that made me hate him. I don't watch fights to see someone spending 20 minutes coming into the ring on a "flying" carpet. Barrera became my favorite fighter overnight by fighting that match perfectly and exposing Hamed as the idiot he was.

Third was Jones. He had a lot of flash, and was a genuinely accomplished middelweight, but when the cries of rematch started coming against sone people he had beat early in their careers, he fled to the less-talented super-middleweight division, eventually settling into the light-heavyweight division, where there was such a dearth of talet, he could reside for years without having to face anyone who might be able to challenge him, and allow him to crow too loudly about how he was the greatest fighter who ever lived.
The sheer pleasure I took from that one-punch knockout was almost orgasmic. I think the Johnson loss was a result of that punch, because it made him question his own chin. Had he fought without hesitation, he would have beaten Johnson handily, but his confidence was robbed in that single, hard punch.

The last is Oscar. I think that Oscar definitely had some talent, but he was handed a few decisions along the way to anhance his career and because he was considered "good" for boxing because he was pretty and well-spoken.
I actually had him winning against Trinidad by 1 point, but didn't crow when he lost the decision because I'm a big believer in Karma.
When he went down on the canvas against Hopkins and started pounding his fists on the canvas I actually laughed. I thought it was definitely Karma coming to bite him on the ass for that decision he accepted over Sturm, who beat him like a little girl for almost that entire fight and danced away at the end of every round so DLH couldn't go into his patented last 5 second, round-stealing, pit-a-pat "flurries".
Justice had been meted out.

I thought i would enjoy seeing Ricardo Mayorga lose but i didn't. Don't get me wrong i was glad Tito won very much and i was one of many who said Tito would win. It's just a shame that you have to see certain fighters lose to really learn and admire what they are about. It would have been easy for Ricardo to stay down the first knockdown after the beating he had but he showed his true heart and warriors spirit by getting back up and fighting on. I'm still not keen on some of the comments he makes outside of the ring but the impact he made on me by losing of all things will stay with me forever. I will watch his future fights and not look at him negatively anymore.

The only fighter i wish to see lose is John Ruiz. I cherish the David Tua fight very much, i watch it to remind myself that it is possible. :D

I think that is a definitely possibility if he steps out of Manchester for while and doesn't have Micky Vann reffing for him. That's sort of like having an extra pair of hands in the ring.
I watched 1 Hatton fight and counted 13 obviously low blows, well within Vann's line of sight, before he was ever issued a warning for it.

I enjoyed watching Jones loose and take a beating because i saw the ***** in his armor a while back and i called it.

Also because he would cry and moan about not being top p4p fighter in the world in some lists when he hadnt fought anybody in like a decade.

I agree with Wez. At the begining of the fight i was very excited and couldnt wait to see mayorga get beaten the crap out of by tito, but half way through the fight i started to respect the guy and how he was standing up against all the blows tito was throwin at him, and i rreally didnt expect to see him keep fighting after a body blow like that! But once he was KOed i saw mayorga for the true fighter he really is....But my evil side keeps telling me it would have been funny to see mayorga beat tito just to backup his pre match comments... ;)

dlh... cuz he ducked so many..well and if u dont wanna call it duck..it was there was high risk with lil money (winky-mayorga-margarito-spinks.etc)..and that was crap...he also admited to cruiseing the last ffew rounds od trinidad fight..i mean F**K!..ur a boxer u get paid so much to fight what-3 times a year at most..and ur still going to do some sh*t like that..then the one the pissed me off the most was him saying he was fighting hopkins gor the legacy...umm ok where was this oscar when he didnt fight so many others that were good...hopkins has never ducked anyone..and got paid crap for it...he stay quite when he wins a gift UD(sturm)-but when it happens to him he cries and *****es about it and want to sue everyone (trinidad/mosley II)...so for these many resaon when dlh was dropped for a minute and 5 seconds from a less harder body shot then mayorga was dropped with and didnt get up..my family was sad (there from nicaragua like me and wanted the latino to win) i was not and was proud...no matter what he does he wont go out like lenoard did..so maybe now he will stop comparing himself to him (he has trust me)..and shut the hell up and give us good fight and not just steal our mony for boring ass fights against weak guys or untop oxers like winky and margarito who are so underrated

I was ecstatic when Tyson was KO'd by both Douglas & Holyfield.

But, I think seeing the frowning Michael Nunn crushed by James Toney was the happiest I've been to see someone get waxed.

I also liked seeing Toney drop Mikey Nunn like a bad habit.

For some reason I enjoyed watching Eubank beat up Nigel Benn.

Bull****. You hated Jones for a while and when he finally lost at an older age your ablity to 'forsee the future' looked good all of a sudden.

I watch no fight just to get joy out of someone losing. I dislike some fighters a bit, but anyone who gets real pleasure out of someone losing is just a sad and lonely person wo is probably full of jealousy.

Zab Judah-I dont know how many more times this guy is going to get hyped up, but watching Tszyu destroy him with one punch brought a huge smile to face.

Nasim Hamed-More show than go

RJJ-I still feel he ducked so many fighters, I always resented him for that. It was great to see Tarver, talk the talk, and walk the walk.

I suppose the American's.

Tim Williams was a loud-mouth prick who Nigel Benn had to teach a lesson, then there was Anthony Logan who bad-mouthed Benn and Eubank but got beat and hurt by both, Doug DeWitt said he was going to take Benn to school but got brutalised from start to finish, Robbie Sims was really laying into Benn but got ****ed around the ring come fight time, Tony Thornton said Eubank only fought for 30 seconds of each round and posed for the other 2 and a half minutes - but Eubank took Thornton to the cleaners, Lindell Holmes said he was going to 'bring the title back to America' and that Eubank was a phoney but poor old Lindell just got beaten up, Gerald McClellan said he wanted to kill Nigel Benn and at the time of the referee counting McClellan out I was over the moon (though obviously didn't wish such tragedy on him), and Jeff Lacy called Joe Calzaghe a 'slapper' but got his ass well and truly handed to him with those 'slaps' :D

DLH vs. Hopkins, Tyson vs. Douglas, and Lennox Lewis vs.Hasim Rahman.DLH because he's such a whiner.Tyson because I have always thought he was overrated.Even though now I have a lot of respect for Lewis and realize he was a great fighter and champion it was great watching him smile at Rock and then get ktfo by a huge right hand. That's classic.
