View Full Version : Royce Gracie Vs. Matt Hughes is monumental because......
Mr. Violence 05-26-2006, 04:37 PM This fight will once again test the evolution of martial arts. We will see if it's better to cross train and merge different style as Hughes epitomizes.....or is brazilian ju jitsu still THE premiere martial art and if you learn it you wont need to learn anything else as many practitioners claim.
this fight is historical, its not just another fight....if gracie wins I will consider dropping everything else and just concentrating solely on Brazilian Ju Jitsu.
I don't think it proves Brazil JJ should be embraced so quickly if Royce wins.
It will simply mean that Gracie beat Hughes, nothing more.

maybe....but it could also mean we are all wasting our time cross training....because Hughes is the epitomy of modern mixed martial arts
enadeus 05-26-2006, 05:56 PM Are you kidding me? This fight will be so one sided its not even funny. Matt Hughes by TKO. My guess elbows, he will catch him on the cage, and corner him in.
Left2body 05-28-2006, 02:25 AM Funny thing is I think Royce was beat in every aspect of the fight. When on the ground Matt just simply dominated him. Royce even had Matt in his half guard and Matt still re-established side mount before getting the hooks in on Royce.
It shows the evolution of the sport and the effectiveness of cross training. There are also much better athletes fighting now than in Royces hay day.
Royce in UFC 1-3 proved that BJJ beats all other INDIVIDUAL disciplines a majority of the time. In UFC 60 Matt proved that Cross training beats any individual discipline a majority of the time.

I think Matts superhuman strength did it for him. Did you notice in his interview with Rogan he said that he heard John Mcarthy say "get out of there to Royce" ? thats when he started punching ? just something I wondered about, and how does Royce give his back if such an expert ?
RunW/Knives 05-28-2006, 02:42 AM Someone was laughing at my statement that Hughes was a stronger opponent than Shamrock.
I suppose they've never seen this guy in action, and seen/read about the kind of weight lifting regimine he does.
He's a freak of nature.
Memorex 05-28-2006, 03:29 AM How did Royce survive that arm submission? That showed me some will power right there.

I dont think he has any bones , it is true that he is a human ananconda. That was sick though huh.

Hughes gave Gracie a one sided beating by Ground N Pound TKO.

Hell yea that was sick , when Matt was cranking that arm , I thought it was over.
twospeed99 05-28-2006, 03:04 PM Been wondering why Hugh's has never demanded or asked for a rematch with BJ Penn.He never mentions it,BJ Penn is the epitomy of MMA and cross training and spanked Matt so bad I think he wants everyone to forget about that one.On another note Diego Sanchez lost that fight, how the hell do you win on failed take downs and hanging on someones back for 2 minutes, that was a joke. One judge had it 3 rounds for Diego?????
