View Full Version : WWF's Kurt Angle vs UFC Fighters tjmoney 05-26-2006, 12:21 PM how do ou guys think he would fare in the ufc. You think he gets a belt or what? Angle vs. Arlovski, what happens here???? unit021 05-26-2006, 02:25 PM Angle as he is now, would get raped. straight up. when Daniel Puder went up against in a shoot segment, Puder got Angle in a kimura. the ref was quick in thinking and counted Puder's shoulders down for the 3 pinfall. in reality, Puder could've dislocated Angle's elbow or shoulder. i don't know how well Angle's chin is, tho there are prolly people who have stiffed him a couple of times. but if Angle went against Arlovski, he'd prolly get knocked out quick. Prime Angle from the Olympics or Collegiate days would stand a better chance as his wrestling background would give him an advantage or at least even the playing field on the ground. tho i dunno how good his sub skills are. he would prolly be able to hang. I don't watch or follow WWE at all, but I am aware of this event and in all fairness to Angle, it was a WWE event. It was supposed to be fixed (obviously) and he was most likely not expecting Puder to do that at all. That's not to say that it wouldn't happen if he was expecting it, but this example is not a fair one to use to demonstrate Angle's potential in MMA. Just my 2 cents. unit021 05-26-2006, 04:31 PM I don't watch or follow WWE at all, but I am aware of this event and in all fairness to Angle, it was a WWE event. Just my 2 cents. true, but that's all we have to work with per se. i mean Angle now, with all his injuries would just be endangering himself in an MMA ring. hell, he's shortening his career and causing more damage to his neck everytime he takes a bump in the wrestling ring. the guy is a great technician and is definitely charismatic, but all he has at the moment in an MMA field would be his wrestling background. he could prolly work a takedown or two and go the GnP route, but we're not sure of his sub skills. unfortunately, Angle prolly wouldn't fare all that well in an MMA ring. LoftyDog 05-28-2006, 02:41 AM Puder said that Angle did something he wasnt supposed to, shoot in on him I believe, and so thats why he did that to him. Angle is a gold medalist in wrestleing, even if he wasn't expecting it he still shouldn't have gotten into a kamura. BJJ is made to defend against strikes while freestyle wrestling is not, so you don't know how well he would do in MMA. 2swell k-wells 11-09-2006, 06:17 PM Kurt Angle is one of my hero's but in mma I think hes too old...yea he won a gold medal, but that was years ago. Matt Hamill won 3 gold medals, but not sure if he had much competition in deaf olympics and he is younger and seems he had a hard time his last fight and he was training in big bear with ortiz. Kurt Angle in ufc would make **** load of money and bring the ratings sky high if he fought, and too bad dana white didnt take him cause thats alot of money he turned down with angle. 1bad65 11-09-2006, 07:00 PM He is too beaten up from pro wrestling now. I think he had at least one neck surgery. Pro wrestling is alot worse on your body compared to boxing or mma. Liaison 11-09-2006, 07:39 PM Pro wrestling is alot worse on your body compared to boxing or mma. Yep that's true due to the high risk bumps/spots they do to get the crowd going. Anyway, as for Kurt in MMA... Obviously, right now he wouldn't have a chance. He’s 38 years old and was fired from the WWF because he refused to take time off from the ring and recover. But in his prime he’d fare well. MMA has rarely if ever had a wrestler with the athletic background of Kurt's so he’d cause tons of problems to fighters there, he’s very dedicated to his art and would certainly learn different aspects of the game to better his chances and most importantly, has been under the lights at a gold medalist and main evented all the top wrestling shows. He has a mentality about winning that few men possess. He will not crack under pressure. And as for the Puder thing, Puder wanted to make a name. Angle wasn’t expecting it as the script said he was supposed to put a move on him and get an easy 1, 2, 3. I can safe;y sayt that Angle would kill Puder under MMA rules even today. My take on it is even if he wasn't expecting it, he's a gold medal wrestler, you would think he would still do something about it. And I think Puder is more well rounded than Angle so Puder would have the advantage. IMO. THE REAL NINJA 11-10-2006, 09:12 AM Angle has said that he was never in any danger he had Puder up and could have dropped him on his head if he wanted to but knew he would have lost his job ect for it. Sure this may just be Kurt trying to down play it but either way it was a cheap shot by Puder . I don't think Kurt would do well right now in MMa because he has had a very bad neck injury is older and does not train for it . Brock Lesner on the other hand should do very well in MMa . But kudos to Puder, he made a name for himself that night. The reason I have Angle over Puder is the whole mental edge factor. Like I mentioned earlier, Kurt’s main evented right at the top infront of 20,000+ in the crowd and almost millions at home at Wrestlemania. Puder’s never experienced anything like that. If Puder is on the ground and getting pounded hard, does he mentally quit? We don't know. If Angle is, does he quit? We know. He doesn't. 2swell k-wells 11-10-2006, 02:12 PM Ya but I dont think his injury would stop him from going to MMA...He won the olympic gold medal with a broken freaken neck against a huge experienced russian wrestler. Brock should be able to take guys down cause of the wrestling background and his freakish strength, and once he gets them down thats where the BJJ or GJJ comes into play with a submission. Royce was smart by training this huge wrestler for mma...should be interesting to watch. the giant one 11-10-2006, 03:57 PM brock wont go to UFC because of the steroid testing 1bad65 11-10-2006, 06:41 PM Rumors are that Brock Lesnar is training with the Miletich camp for mma. If he is using steroids, he can fight in Japan. They are not illegal over there, and thus you are not tested. 2swell k-wells 11-10-2006, 07:20 PM ya i have seen bigger guys in pride, was wondering what was up with that. |
