View Full Version : Was early Eminem an act/gimmick?
Smokin' 05-23-2006, 08:16 PM We all know the lyrical prowess that Eminem had early in his rap career (Marshal Mathers & Slim Shady LP's). We all know the **** he would talk about such as raping people, killing people, gaybashing, etc etc...so my question is was all this an intelligent act crafted by Dr.Dre (or someone else) or was it really this guys personality?
Discuss, *****es.
RAESAAD 05-23-2006, 08:18 PM He was being outrageous.......To get attention and it worked.Nobody would have taken him seriously had he tried to portray a harder image.Nobody took him seriously at first either until they sat down and listen to his extreme creativity.
Smokin' 05-23-2006, 08:20 PM I hardly think this guy would of been popular even with his lyrical power. It's just tough for a white guy to be noticed in rap unless he hangs out with a bunch of *****'s, like Paul Wall.

Paul Wall is still a joke......Dude really thinks he is black.
EXIGE 05-23-2006, 08:21 PM What you are hearing now is the act, not what you were hearing back then. ;)
Smokin' 05-23-2006, 08:22 PM haha, I wish EXIGE. That would be totally awesome if he actually made an awesome 'ENCORE' album, getting back to his old style.

What? What does this have to do with my post?

He can't he is growing up.He is still funny as hell when he wants to be.The older you get the more serious you become about life and your surroundings.
Smokin' 05-23-2006, 08:26 PM he still has some of the magic back in 'em. I listened to Soldier yesterday and the lyrics are still on point on that song.

His lyrics are still on point no doubt but his character is changing......which I don't think is because he is trying to be hard but just because he has grown up in front of the world....

True, Check that Infinite album. Its pretty impressive.
Truth 05-23-2006, 10:19 PM Eminem is a good artist and a good rapper. His plan was probably to get everyones attention and then evolve from there, which he did. The Eminem Show showed some maturity in his music and even on Encore he had some more mature tracks.
Smokin' 05-24-2006, 07:17 PM I think Eminem Show is a really underrated album. Not one of his BEST, but the content is pretty decent and he had some bangin' tracks on there like Soldier, Till I collapse etc.

It was a gimmick - or at least a bizarre extension of his personality. He didn't rap like that on Infinite...

Thats how he was at the time... Ever listen to Infinite? People grow up, and change. I think he realized somewhere during the Ja Rule beef that life is too short to sweat the bull****. Unfortunetly thats when his music started to suck...
boxstarr 05-25-2006, 04:34 PM i think it was probably him discussing the odd things that go through his head
it happens to everyone but most people dont talk about it
