The thing that bothers me, and maybe bothers some other people, is not the fact that Bruce Lee Maybe couldn't beat Mike Tyson, a decent middleweight boxer, a decent martial artist, or someones granny, but the fact that some people like to take pleasure in trying to degrade this guy, who regardless of how you rate him as a fighter, was a pioneer of martial arts, and one of the great icons on the 20th century, this guy might have done more for combat sports than any other guy, and was a great great philospoher, he was truly ahead of his time and a legend, thats all that needs to be said.

I agree Bruce Lee was great. He was ahead of his time. He is one of the if not the most influential martial artist of all time.

People should not try to discredit this mans achievements. However, people should not try portray him as some kind of invincible super-human nor should they state that he would beat certain people not based on any fact.. but on the mystique that surrounds him. This was the exact kind of bullshit bruce was against, and he would be against people supporting the notion that he could beat Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Fedor etc. He was a pioneer first and foremost and he acknowledged this and had no intentions of fighting competitively.

I always liked Bruce Lee and enjoyed watching his movies as a child. Problem is there are people that cling very tightly to his balls and ruin what Bruce Lee stood for. Above all he was a philosopher and pioneer and thats how I shall remember him, not as the unstoppable killing machine that some around here like to believe.
It's Lee's obsessive fans that degrade Lee I'm sorry to say. Remember Bruce Lee for what he was, not for what you want him to be.

Most people are intelligent enuf to know that noone is invincible ; even Bruce Lee. But wen they read shite from as paul750 mentioned to try and downgrade, they respond in a way they see fit. Bruce Lee could've beat King Kong or a silver back gorilla etc. That is probably as wrong as Lee woz just an actor, Jackie Chan would ve beat him.
And when u say Lee wud've been against people supporting the notion dat he cud beat Ali etc is absurd. Lee wanted to be the greatest fighter in the history of the world. Dont try and ignore anyting about Lee becoz i will jus bring the matter up. Im not interested in sweeping things under the carpet like u. Whether or not he cud we are going to argue until the cows cum home. Bruce Lee said he cud beat anyone. People who sparred with Lee tended to agree with him. Doesnt mean it is fact that he wud or could, but dont make out people havent got a basis for thinking he cud do wot he said he cud do.

What a great post. I have no idea how Bruce Lee would have done against anyone, but I do know that it was quite heartbreaking to me as a child when I learned of his passing. :(

edit: and then his son /cry

I agree 100% provided these so called fights were to take place think of it like this, each one has their advantages and disadvantages. We will use Ali vs. Lee just as an example. Both very fast fighters, I would image both are smart fighters, but Ali is a boxer and Lee is a Martial Artist. To compare the 2 they would have to be in the type of fight they both fight so you cant compare. Put Lee vs. Ali in a Martial Arts competition then who wins it's obvious. You cant use Lee against fighters in this type of scenario. Furthermore Lee was about the art not the fighting, he did movies for money not for the fighting.

A good fight should be like a small play...but played seriously. When the opponent expands, l contract. When he contracts, l expand. And when there is an opportunity... l do not hit...it hits all by itself (shows his fist).

Lee had no intention of competing becoz he was training for a fight that didnt exist, particularly at that time period legally. Real fighting woz against the law. It is even doubtful he wud enter MMA becoz to him it wudnt be real fighting. Anything that prevents him from using any, or all of his weapons.
He woznt interested in proving anything to anyone other than himself. He wasnt interested in trophys. He had worked out with the people who had the trophies and he found he cud just play with them. They had nothing over him.
