Teddy atlas was training him then. i read teddy's biography, and he said that rooney was going to a sauna every night after his workouts and sweating out all his salts and electrolytes which ****ed him up. he was a natural 147, but had to make 140 for that fight. teddy's dad who was a doctor told them to postpone the fight, but cus d'amato wouldlnt
allow it. so they fought and rooned got ****ed up. teddy believes they could have won if he wasn't exhausted, but isn't sure about it.

The commentators (Ryan, Clancy,Leonard) do make mention of Rooney coming down in weight but it wouldn't have mattered. Arguello cut a path through the lightweight division and was preparing to fight Aaron Pryor for the first time. Arguello had a great left hook to the body which can see in only the 2 rounds and obviously a perfect accurate straight right.

An average fighter like Rooney would never have beaten Arguello who was a P4P multi-division ATG.

Great knockout. The epitome of patience- expertly waiting for a single opportunity and - BANG! Picture perfect.
