I am 15, 6,0, and weigh 168 pounds. I have a quite a bit of fat on my stomach. Will doing ab excersizes like crunches and situps burn the fat on my stomach. Or does it just build muscle underneath? Any advice on ab workouts, upper body workouts, and diets will be much appreciated.

both... stop eating carbs...EDIT: you are 15 years old you should start to thin out anyday now just do what you've been doing 6' 160 is not bad and you are going to get a bit taller at that rate so give body time to grow into it's self

Ab exercises will NOT burn fat on your stomach. They will develop muscle though. You cannot burn fat in any particular area of the body by exercising it. You have to lower your overall BF%.
Getting rid of fat requires a calorie intake that is smaller than the number of calories you use. So restrict your calories, and spend as many execercising as you can.

abs are made in the kitchen. clean up those eating habits and hit the cardio.

Keep doing your ab work but you must burn the fat ovet the muscle. Running is a great way to tightn your stomach while burning the fat. Jumping rope will give you similar effects. Your young yet, probably still holding on to some of that baby fat. Keep the carbs in your diet, it will help you to work stronger. Just get into a physical routine like 5 to 6 days a week. Doing this it will speed up your metabolism and you will just begin to shed the unwanted fat. Work hard and you can achieve anything that you want to.

basically do cardio - on an empty stomach if you can (drink fluid first though). you are not going to see abs until your body fat percentage is 10%or below. do the abs exercises but dont do sit ups - pointless - it takes 250,000 sit ups to burn 1% of fat.

Some Ab workouts:

> Regular crunches
> Lay on an inclined platform, (go to any gym and you will see it)get a medicine ball, and throw it to a partner, while moving just your upper body up and down, without moving your legs (probably the best ab workout) you can also go side to side catching the ball to build up your side torso.

You're right on the first part. But don't pull bullshit numbers like that last part out of your ass like that. It's ****in' idiotic.

You realize that 1% BF means that 1% of your bodyweight is fat, right? Well, then 1% of BF on a 140lb guy would be 1.4lbs. On a 240lb guy however, it would be 2.4lbs.
While it is certainly true that a heavier guy MIGHT spend more energy doing a certain number of sit ups, it is no where a linear equation that will make it level out so that he spends 2.4lbs of fat, while the smaller guy uses 1.4lbs.
Add to that, the fact that you won't burn off ANY fat, if you eat more calories than you spend, and your claim is just utterly ridiculous.

Fat on the body goes on and comes off in the same order, which is different for each individual. Therefore area-specific exercises don't work necessarily. You need to get your overall fat percentage down to where the fat comes off. Also, there may be abdominal fat, e.g. in the abdomen beneath the abs, as well as over the abs, which is just as bad. Work out more, eat less, until the fat comes off. If you take the lazy way, drugs, etc., it means you lack discipline and won't work hard enough to accomplish anything anyway.....
