View Full Version : Corporations have ruined the SuperBowl

All the **** that had before, during and after the game literally made me feel ill...

I hate the whole corporate way of doing things...bull**** speeches and tacky presentations and ceremonies. sanitized concerts with phoney fans mouthing the lyrics. Speeches about the "spirit of competition" after you win (what happened to driving your opponent into the ground and feeling good about it?). The over-the-top way of presenting everything. Okay...the game's over, drag out the supersized Vince Lombardi Trophy replica and get Terry Bradshaw out there to interview everyone over the loudspeakers.

This is the same stuff I have to put up with at work...phoney sanitized feel-goodness. I find it hilarious that capitalism is all about screwing over your fellow man yet they all pretend it's so nice and wholesome.

The word "SuperBowl" could be interchanged with numerous other words and your thread title would still be very appropriate.

I agree. Its all bull****. Its not even about the game anymore. The Paul McCartney thing took the cake. He went out there and did his job but the whole scene was so phony. I was wondering how much they had to pay those young people to stand by the stage and look all excited while he was playing. As soon as "Hey Jude" started every one meraculously had a lighter lit and sang along. It was total bull****. And the whole thing with the red, white and blue in the stands?? WTF whas that ****? I would have been pissed if I had to stay in my seat and hold one of those stupid signs during half time when I could have been taking a piss and getting a beer.
Your right that corps have ruined the Super Bowl. Its not even about the game anymore. The game actually pales in comparison to the whole spectacle that is the "Super Bowl".

the superbowl will be taken off of regular network TV and be on cable only. I think it was called godaddy.com or something like that, the 1st commercial showed this hott chick in ,well she was pretty hott and the second commercial never aired

What are you talking about? That commercial was for registering domain names for 8.95 a year.

I dont think the Super Bowl will ever go to straight cable. There is more money in the advertising on broadcast cable because of the potential audience.

What was the deal with those red white and blue cards anyway? At first I thought it was the Pepsi logo...are they trying to say that Paul McCartney is a blue-blooded American?

Those phoney fans with the lighters were too much. Typical corporate stupidity...like we wouldn't think that them all lighting lighters at the same time wasn't a little fishy.

there was suppose to be a second commercial but Fox pulled it out, they got a few cranky calls about that one commercial. Its what I heard.

and Ted Turner owns the superbowl now and word has it that this was the last year for it to be on reg tv  who knows

If Ted Turner owns it, it could be on TNT. The NBA All-Star Game was on that channel this year...

Maybe he made a mistake and the news was really that Ted Turner owned a Super Bore (i.e. Jane Fonda).

I can't believe everyone is complaining. At least you got to see monkeys pull the old whoopie cushion trick. :D I about fell off my chair on that one.

The whole world is whored..I just watch the game and don't worry about it.

That's always been my attitude, too, but it gets harder and harder every year to ignore all the crap that goes on around the game. Plus they damage the integrity of the game itself all in the name of greed, in many ways:

- They take way more time than usual between warmups and the coin toss in order to get in all their ceremonial garbage

- Halftime is longer than it should be, for the same reason

- They change footballs every single down! Meaning the ball never gets broken in and everyone has a tough time throwing and catching it. It takes at least a quarter for teams to get used to this...which is why the first quarter is always so low-scoring and the teams look sloppy.

- They take more and longer commercials, meaning teams don't have to be as smart about their timeouts.

- They drag stages and props on and off the field, damaging the grass or turf.

These are all little things, to be sure, but they do affect the game, and you never know how much more they'll want to do in the future in order to rake in more $$$.

I loved the one that the guy at the store is buying a soda or whatever and he says "you are getting robbed" but he is talking to the guy on the phone but the guy in the front counter thinks he is talking to him and mased him and the asian lady beat him with a bat, LMAO

I liked the one by the same company (Ameriquest) with the cat spilling the spagetti sauce and the guy picking up the cat holding a butcher knife when his wife walks in. That was funny ****. :D

I thought Paul did a good job at halftime, but what really turned me on was the stage itself and all the pyro, I have worked alot of concerts and have seen lots of stages, but that setup was amazing, I have never seen anything like it, the people in attendance got a huge show.

By the way, everyone in the entire stadium got a glow stick along with their seat purchase and the instructions on when to use it, they were not useing the old bic lighter routine, just a modern version of it, and the effect was cool - I liked it. Also, the signs were under the seats to be used at halftime, which the fans love, as it makes them part of the halftime show.

Fans who attended the show get a whole package for them to keep, including seat cushions, cups etc. along with a big plastic pouch to keep the tickets themselves in, which has a chain and you wear it like a "credential" around your neck. Am I the only person here who has been to a Superbowl?

Thats what I heard too...that soon it will become a ppv event?! Shouldnt be surprised by that I guess..I mean, ESPN is going to put on their very own ppv fight very soon, for the first time. Is that not the channel that had like 2 different people (Kenny and Kellerman..maybe even ATlas) constantly complaining about all these ppv charges, when they should be free??

I just try to watch the game. During the 2.5 million dollar commercials and the phony halftime show, we turned down the T.V, turned up the Pantera and threw the football around.

One of the broadcasters was saying something about alot of people thinking the Super Bowl was too corprate but the fans love the game or something.

awesome post B, i wish i could give u karma for this one but it seems we can't give give karma to the same person twice, ever. dude, i hate corporations more than u do. **** CAPITALISM!!!!
what it really is a license for selfishness, an excuse to look out for number one... ****, like people need to be any more self serving. it seems like everybody thinks, get all you can, can it, then sit on the can. **** THAT! think of howard hughes, the ****sucker had more money than he knew what to do with and look how miserable his life turned out to be. u can't just spend your life grabbing possessions and then sit around everyday worrying about who's gonna take it all away from you.

ITs not corporations that have ruined it. IT is all the self appointed moral watchdogs who try to deny what sports are really about....sex, violence and alcahol!
