View Full Version : We have talked about combinations but what is your (fav) signature punch
spinksjinx 02-07-2005, 06:33 AM For all you boxers amateur/pro or just in training, What is your signature punch that you like to use?
My trainer taught me one of the best moves and punches in my arsenal right now and I am being effective with it and plan on using it on my fight on the 12th.
I will bob my head and dodge down and throw a rapid hook to the body and shuffle to the side at an angle and when my hook hits your body, I will be on the side with a straight to the face.
Been using it in sparring and it has worked effective for me.
Whats yours?
Dempsey roll.
Working on it.

I love how he can do that, I tried it but ended up getting a busted lip and taking a seat. Perhaps if I practiced more and wasnt in with a guy who outweighed me by 40 pounds, maybe but none the less I was uneffective with it.

lol, yeah 40lbs is to much unless your lights out himself. gotta keep the shoulder up, protect the chin. floyd really seems to be the best guy right now at protecting his chin with his shoulders when he's on D.

coming forward and weaving side to side off of left and right hooks
cmason 02-07-2005, 10:57 AM the guy i hit the pads with says my left hook to the body is my best punch, i do enjoy throwing it off the right cross.
Mr. Ryan 02-07-2005, 02:09 PM When crouched on the inside, I like to pivot to my right and fire double left hooks while the guy is off balance. Another unorthodox move I use is crouching very low in the corner while under fire, and timing a left hook counter shot. Very unorthodox, it works with my shortness.

How tall are you, guy?
Atwa_66 02-07-2005, 04:00 PM My favorite punch:
I duck and weave to the left and throw a tight right uppercut to the chin, my right uppercut is by far my most powerful punch so it's paying off really well in sparring
elveiel 02-07-2005, 04:13 PM Right Uppercut, from any stance or angle its never failed me.

Well, I'm no boxer, but I still want to answer this one...the punch I love to see used the most is the uppercut. When executed properly it can be devestating and Barrett using it against Beck this past Sat. is a good example of that. Barrett was landing pretty well against Beck, but when he connected with that uppercut it seemed to do more damage to Beck. Just my opinion though :o
tracylee 02-07-2005, 04:20 PM Right Uppercut, from any stance or angle its never failed me.
Ah ha...I made my post and then saw yours..we CAN agree after all!!! :p Love that uppercut!
xrhythmxnxbluesx 02-07-2005, 04:29 PM heres my combo i like to use alot... jab... right cross... left uppercut... had a couple knock downs using that combo...

Oh yeah, that punch can be brutal; it's been my favorite every since I first got into the sport! :)

true... the uppercut.. is more of a follow through... got the guy hurt with the right... if he does go down then... the uppercut will come...
i like that song from tupac... called... uppercut... could use it as an entrance song...

James Toney is probably the uppercut specialist. The shots he landed against Booker was insane to bad he had a good chin or Toney didnt hit him hard enough. But my god did Toney execute those blows nicely.

mine is the right hook(im southpaw) to the body
i also like the left cross to the body
or the power jab to the body
Floydmayweather 02-08-2005, 12:30 AM I like to faint the right jab and then through a left uppercut. It works nicely as a southpaw as they are always looking for that left hook or follow but left. ;)
BrickJungleGorilla 02-08-2005, 02:10 AM My favorite single punch is when i get on the inside i lean down to the right and come up with a right uppercut/hook. Its kind of a mix between a uppercut and a hook. Im a switch hitter, i can fight from right and left handed stances.
But combinations wise, i like the left uppercut followed by a straight right and a left hook. ;)
By the way, im new to these forums, Im Teddy. Im from New Orleans. Im 16 and am just getting to a point in my life where i can get into a gym and start training, and im looking to be fighting about 9 months from now.
Could you describe the Dempsey roll to me please?
crap sorry i didnt see this until now.
Basicly you weave your body in a 8 formation and at the same time as you're approching the opponent (uppward angle) you throw a hook and repeat but from the other side. If you can get it to work you can delive so incredbly powerful and fast punches at a high pace.
Being short I need something that gives power and does alot of damage quickly.
It's a ***** to get perfect but it's worth it.
Mr. Ryan 02-08-2005, 01:03 PM How tall are you, guy?
Well guy, I am 5"6, but spar with guys who are usually 3-4 inches taller than me.
Mr. Ryan 02-08-2005, 01:05 PM Right Uppercut, from any stance or angle its never failed me.
I have this punch I call The Uppercut From Hell, which is simply my reaching down very deep with one uppercut to the chin. It goes down so far, My right glove frequently touches the top of Satan's head, hence the name.

Oh yeah, Toney has the uppercut down pat! :)

Toney has a cheeky uppercut, he sneaks it which must really annoy his opponent. :D
patto1984 02-08-2005, 09:34 PM right hand over the top of the jab. Good punch cos it ta
patto1984 02-08-2005, 09:36 PM kes the jab away from ur opponent.

Oh yeah, those you dont see coming are something else! ;)
rokness 02-09-2005, 12:56 PM The straight right
Pinoy_Texan 02-09-2005, 02:46 PM Left uppercut against the right cross.
left-right to head and left uppercut to the ribbs, i knocked a guy during training today with it.
joeboxer 02-09-2005, 08:04 PM A right hook when your opponent throws a jab. Especially if they are smaller. Just take the jab in the face, it can't hurt you, if you get'm with a good hook they won't be able to say the same thing.
Slipx 02-09-2005, 08:47 PM well, my signature punch that I rarely use is only useable with a bit of distance between me and an opponent,
I come down and thrust up with a skip, move my head to the left a bit and wind up my waist and throw the left hook at full speed, not too wide, when the punch hits the target my feet are like 1 inch off the ground. full weight xfer punch
but by far my favorite punch is the jab
brickhouse187 02-11-2005, 01:13 PM Straight right hand lefthook to the body.
