View Full Version : Should Wlad loose 10-15 pounds ?

I think it was vB Martin who mentioned to me that Wlad should loose 10-15 pounds and get down to 230-235.

It seems like a good idea now, after carefully rewatching the W-K fight. Steward tries to make Wlad into a big-bodied, imposing fighter who would push other fighters around the ring. This does not seem like a very good strategy. Wlad has a light body type, and extra pounds really burden him, taking his fluidity away.

Of course, Steward and WK know better, but, what do you think?

wlad should stay big. its a great advantage if he can use his size well

I think that offensive wise he should lose 10-15 punds of muscle. In that fight his back and hands were just huge and even though i understand what manny wants to do i think that wlad should be skinnier in order to move better. IMHO his foot work sucks!!! The knockdown was only due to wlad's inability to move properly around the ring

Exactly, I dont understand the beefed up back muscles and biceps. I suppose it is good for looks, but it does not add speed, slows him down, and requires more oxigen to feed them.

I am 9 inches shorter than Wladimir and weigh 226 today...his weight is fine, he needs Sdunek back. The KO loss to Sanders was blown WAY out of proportion he took a huge amount of drilling shots and kept getting up. Sdunek MUST RETURN!

Fritz Sdunek is a good trainer and a good man. I dont know why Wlad blew him off.

Because everyone screamed their heads off that something was wrong...he came in cold against one of the most devastating punchers ever...big ****ing deal. He looks like a baby giraffe out there now trying to make Manny happy instead of just going out and treating the other fighter like he isn't even worthy of licking the soles of his feet. Bring back Sdunek!!!!

I think Sdunek was telling Wlad the truth. Manny overpraises Wlad too much, which is not good for a slavic person...
although Manny sounds a lot more reasonable these days than before.

Exactly ! I could not agree more. Wlad should have fought a rematch with Sanders to gain his confidence back. It was not a good idea to let his brother do it for him, although they did not really have a choice.

He's already shown that he can't, so that's a moot point.

As for the weight loss, I went into that on one of my very first posts here.

I think a rematch with Byrd would do a lot for Wlads confidence. He already knows what to expect from Byrd and there's little threat of Byrd knocking Wlad out.

I doubt this fight will happen, but if it did, IMO - Wlad would gain confidence and a Belt.

Wlad should drop some weight and fight at cruiser where they dont hit as hard.

And at that weight class he wont have to worry about Don King and the bigots drugging him!

BrooklynBomber
10-05-2004, 02:24 PM
Actually he looked so bad not cause of the extra pounds but because of that style he chose to fight. Trying to be defensive oriented jabber with all that weight and throwing combos flat-footed will do you no good. So bring Sdunek back. Or at least if you wonna fight that way drop some pounds.

Hopefully you aren't a Lewis fan. Wasn't that the whole reason why Vitali did so well against Lewis?

I think that he should invest this additional weight in legs and not in big biceps or huge back muscles. At least that would give him a better puch will make him more durable in an off-balance position and improve footwork. Stronger legs are much better then big biceps/triceps for a boxer

If you look at Big and Little K side by side, Big K has a much larger frame than Little K, therefore is better suited to carrying more weight.

Wlad needs to put weight on his legs, his upper body is big and he has matchsticks for legs!! No wonder his balance is so poor!!

All you know, or care about, is Wlad Klitschko.
The sad part is, you either don't know or won't accept the TRUTH about him.

The truth = Not a real fighter. Too mechanical, too tense. No head movement. No stamina, no chin, no ability to handle a crisis.
Excellent offensive tools, that go south once the heat's on.

I think it has been established that he isn't the heir apparent to the throne that many thought he was, so why are some of you guys still acting like everyone that has a positive opinion of one of his performances still thinks he is a world beater? Clearly, he has work to do if he is going to become a champion. Manny was telling to take it easy, to lay back, because I guess Manny was afraid Wlad would run out of gas, that had alot to do with him fighting the way he did. I mean, I can't ****ing stand James Toney, or Mayorga. I was laughing my ass off when Mayorga got beat the **** up by a man he repeatedly called a *****, now it's Toney's turn. I'm not a "hater". I love the fact that the European's are finally making a dent in professional boxing. It's great to see these two guys finally escape the shadow of Lewis.

But when I start reading quotes like, "Wlad has quicker hands than Tyson" and Wlad is the most offensive boxer in the hW division" is just complete nonsense.
